Dukee and Mia were laying in the family room and chatting about last night when Mia heard her mom get up.
“Quiet, my mom’s coming,” Mia said as she saw her mom walk into the hallway.
“Well, this is unusual for you two. You both play nice,” Mom said as she walk past them to go to her bedroom.
After Mia’s mom left the room, Mia continued with their conversation.
“So yeah, when I saw the really big cat in the backyard, I couldn’t believe my eyes,” Mia said.
“Was it bigger then Rafael?” Dukee asked.
“Yes, a lot bigger and it’s tail was really short,” Mia said.
“Large cat with short tail and some grey spots? I’ve never seen a cat like that before,” Dukee said and then licked the bottom of his paw.
“Me neither. But I have heard my mom say something about a big cat before. She called it, um… Bob,” Mia said.
“Shh,” Dukee said as he saw his aunt come back out of her room.
Auntie R looked down as she walked past Dukee and Mia and noticed that they seemed content laying so close to each other. So she went back into the front living room to watch television.
“Why does she call that cat Bob?” Dukee asked when the coast was clear.
“I don’t know, but I’ve heard her mention Bobcat before,” Mia said.
“You know, I’ve heard my mom say something about Bob cat too,” Dukee said.
“What did she say about it?” Mia sat up and looked at Dukee.
“Well, I heard her say that she hasn’t seen him yet,” Dukee said and then gently itched his ear with his back foot.
“Oh, so it’s only been me and my mom who has seen Bob, huh?” Mia asked.
“Yes, I guess so,” Dukee said.
Mia stood up, walked in front of Dukee, stopped, and looked at him, “well, I guess my mom and I are more special then.”
Mia giggled and then ran toward the front living room. Yeah, you better run, you short legged fur ball, Dukee thought as he looked down the hallway. He then snickered when he saw her slide as she tried to stop.
“I wish that I could see Bob the cat. I wonder if I stayed awake all night and watched out my window if he would come,” Dukee spoke softly to himself.
Dukee then got up then and walked to his bedroom. He wanted a little snack before his nap.
Mia walked up to her mom and gave her a couple of lick kisses on her leg before going over to her food dish. She jumped up onto the coffee table and munched on a few kernels. Then she scanned the perimeter of the window for a lizard but didn’t see any. Mia then laid down on her blanket by the window and did some fluffy fur bathing.
It is true that there has been a Bobcat sighted different times in our area over the years but I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing it. With most of the forest now gone around us, I’m surprised that it is still around here. I really wish that Florida would stop tearing down all the trees and building so much. My theory is, that with less and less live tree rooting holding us together, our state being a partial island, will crumble and fall apart. I’m just saying.
Anyway, Mia and Dukee want to wish you all a wonderful day and weekend to come.
That's funny for Mia, short legged fur ball.
As for Bobcats, they do exist and try to keep hidden. They are mostly roaming and foraging for food in the dawn and dusk hours of a day. Don't ever try to pet one, they are a wild cat !
