Every night before we could start working ,they would have a mandatory meeting and tell everybody what department they were assigned to. They would always ask if anyone had any questions or ideas about how to make the nights work better. I raised my hand and the manager told me to start talking. I started and then got told to shut up. My opinions didn't matter and I should just shut up and get out on the floor and get to work. I never opened my mouth there again.
Sounds like you and Robin worked for the same people I did. I was an overnight stocker. In my dept alone I'd get 15-25 pallets every night and was expected to go through each one aswell as going through all the backstock pallets. Then I was expected to work two other depts that would each get about 5 pallets plus their backstock. All the pallets had to be off the floor by 6 am. The store was open 24/7 so we had to work around customers as well as help them find things too. I would get sooo upset because of all that work. I was one person. All the other depts would get 3-5 pallets each and they would all have 3-4 people working those pallets. I was expected to put dorm size refrigerators on waist high shelves by myself. All those other departs would leave the "heavy" stuff on their pallets paint, glue etc. On my nights off they would put 3-4 people in my depts. If I asked for help I would get told we were short handed. I would see other stockers hiding behind pallets and counters talking on cell phones and having a good time playing catch with balls from the toy dept or riding bikes up and down the toy aisles. I finally had enough back in 2016 and retired after 23 yrs. The company has been going down hill so much. They keep asking when I am coming back. Never ever to work and not so often to shop any more either.
Wow, yes that is way to much for one person. I don't know why companies take advantage of their good employees. And then later they wonder why the good ones leave. I'll never understand it.
I totally agree with you on this total matter ! The company I worked for was a great company about everything and was rewarding the employees of jobs well done, etc.. In the much later years that I was there the company did some changes in corporate levels which then led to changes for the employees. Many changes were only beneficial to the corporation and not to its main workers to keep the business going. A lot of hard workers that have been with the company for so many years quit, including myself. For me it was for the best, less stress and easier on my body.

That's not right at all. Depending on the situation, I might have said, OK see ya and left. To be treated like that at any job is not right.
