As Jen sat on her sofa and clutched her throw pillow tight to her chest, she listened to the wind howl. The rain was pouring down so hard that it made visibility out the window very difficult. Thank goodness I didn’t have to be out tonight, she thought. Jen knew that the storm was coming but it seemed more intense then usual. The wind seemed ferocious as it blew the rain up against her windows. The whistling of the wind almost sounded like screams in the night. No, it can’t be. Who would be out on a night like this, she thought.
Jen got up and went to her kitchen to make a sandwich. While she was in there she heard some strange noises in the apartment next door. It sounded like thumping on the floor. Are they remodeling on a night like this? Maybe should I go check on them, she thought. Jen listened as the thumping sound intensified and then suddenly stopped. Now, other than the wind and the rain outside, she didn’t hear anymore noise next door. Jen grabbed her peanut butter sandwich and a glass of milk and went back into her living room.
