Around six the next morning, Joann and her aunt Cathy were startled awake by a scream. Cathy got up and rushed into Linda’s bedroom where she saw Linda crying. Joann staggered into Linda’s room with sleepy eyes and saw her aunt Cathy sitting on her cousin's bed.
“Is she alright?” Joann asked.
“Yes, you can go back to bed Joann,” Cathy said.
Joann went back to her bedroom while Cathy comforted her daughter. Linda told her mom that in her dream, she was lying on something hard, and two grey figures were standing over her. Cathy told her to forget about it and to try and get some more rest. Linda closed her eyes but couldn’t get those images out of her head. She asked her mom what happened to her. Linda realized that she was at home and not at the house with her roommates. Cathy explained to her that she went missing for a couple of days and that they found her last night.
Linda stared at her mom, “I was missing?”
Cathy told Linda to rest for now and that they will talk more about it later. But when Linda laid down and rolled over, she started to moan with pain. Cathy asked her what was wrong. Linda rolled back over, sat up, and held her hands over her ears.
“It hurts inside my ears,” tears ran down Linda’s cheeks.
Linda moaned again and started to cry more. Cathy called out for Joann and helped Linda get up out of bed. Cathy helped Linda put on her sweatpants when Joann walked in.
“What’s wrong?” Joann asked.
“I’m going to take Linda to the emergency room. You stay here just in case deputy Dean comes early,” aunt Cathy said.
“Okay, but what's wrong with her?” Joann watched as Linda cried and groaned.
“I don’t know but we’ll find out,” Cathy helped Linda slip on some shoes.
Cathy helped Linda out to the car and told Joann that she will call her later. Joann went back inside after Cathy and Linda left for the hospital. The whole ten-minute drive to the hospital, Linda held her hands over her ears, cried, and rocked back and forth. Cathy was in fear that whoever was on that spacecraft did something horrible to her daughter.
At the emergency entrance, Cathy parked her car and ran inside. She called for someone to help her and grabbed a wheelchair. An intern heard Cathy and ran over to her. She told the intern that her daughter is out in her car, and is in a lot of pain. Cathy rushed the wheelchair out to her car and the intern followed. The two of them helped Linda out of the car and sat her down in the wheelchair. The intern questioned Linda about where her pain was. She told him that it hurts in her ears, and also in her head now.
The intern introduced himself as Dr. Green and wheeled Linda into the hospital. Cathy walked right along with them and reassured Linda that everything will be alright. Dr. Green wheeled Linda into an empty emergency room and asked if she ever experienced this pain before. Linda shook her head no with tears running. Dr. Green looked into Linda’s ears but didn’t see anything. Cathy told Dr. Green that she was recently abducted by an alien spacecraft and was brought back last night. Dr. Green looked at Cathy with confusion but didn’t question that at the moment.
Dr. Green walked out to the nurse's desk and called Dr. Sarah Johns. He explained Linda’s symptoms to her and she told him to get a CT scan done. So Dr. Green ordered a CT scan for Linda and went back in to tell Cathy. It would be about a 15-minute wait because the technician was already running another scan. Cathy asked if Linda could have some medication for pain, but Dr. Green told her not at this time.
Because of his curiosity, Dr. Green pulled Cathy aside and asked about what she said earlier. Cathy told him that even though it sounds crazy, she witnessed the spacecraft lowering Linda to the ground. Dr. Green didn’t know what to think of the story but kept it in the back of his mind.
