Sheriff Luis guided Jackie Brown into his office to talk. She told him that she heard about the college student that went missing and is now back. Jackie said that she wants to talk to the girl and see if she knows anything about her son. The sheriff told Jackie that Linda doesn’t remember anything about her abduction yet, so talking to her won’t help. He also pointed out that ten years have passed and it’s unlikely that Linda would have seen him.
The sheriff still wasn’t sure about all this alien abduction business but he wanted to keep an open mind. After all, a missing kid is still a kid who needs to be found. He feels bad that Jackie’s son has never been found. That has to be really hard on her not knowing what happened to him. After about half an hour of listening to Jackie, sheriff Luis reassured her that when he finds out anything from Linda, he will let her know. Jackie left the police station with some hope that she might find out where her son might be.
At the hospital, the room upstairs was now available for Linda to be moved into. Nurse Jackson walked into the ER room and informed Cathy and Joann of the move and assisted them. The young and cute transporter who came in smiled at Joann and then unlocked Linda’s bed so that he could move it. Joann watched as he maneuvered Linda’s bed out into the hallway and to the elevator. I guess this is one nice thing about being in the hospital, Joann thought as they entered the elevator.
When they arrived on the third floor, Nurse Jackson led the way to Linda’s new room. The transporter pushed Linda’s bed into the room carefully and locked it in place. Joann caught a glimpse of the transporter’s name tag as he smiled at her again when he walked out of the room. His name was Jack, and Joann had never seen anyone else as cute as he is. She smiled at him and then followed her aunt into Linda’s new room. Nurse Jackson plugged the monitor into the wall and made sure that everything on Linda was working properly. She also showed Cathy the call for help button and the buttons that worked for the television.
“I will be at the nurse’s station though if you need me,” nurse Jackson said.
“Thank you,” Cathy said.
About twenty minutes went by and Dr. Green walked into Linda’s room with Dr. Giovanni.
“Hi Cathy and Joann, this is Dr. Giovanni, our brain specialist,” Dr. Green said.
“It’s nice to meet you, doctor, can you help my daughter?” Cathy asked.
Dr. Giovanni looked into Linda’s ears and then looked at the monitor. He looked at Cathy and told her that he will do his best and that Linda’s surgery will happen in a couple of hours.
Cathy smiled at Linda and then looked back at Dr. Giovanni, “thank you, doctor.”
He turned towards the door, “Don’t thank me yet, It’s a serious procedure,” Dr. Giovanni said as he left the room.
Dr. Green told Cathy and Joann that it is serious surgery but if anyone can do it successfully, it would be Dr. Giovanni. He informed Cathy that they will have to cut and shave off Linda’s hair. He also told her that the surgery could take up to three hours to complete. It was now 4:15 pm and her surgery is scheduled for 6 pm. Dr. Green suggested that Cathy and Joann go and get some rest, or get something to eat now. Nurse Jackson will be back in soon to bathe Linda and get her prepped for surgery.
“Linda is in good hands and there is nothing that you can do for her right now anyways,” Dr. Green looked at Cathy and Joann.
Cathy looked at her daughter and then at Joann, “I guess we could go and get something to eat.”
Joann nodded her head yes. So, Cathy and Joann agreed to leave for a couple of hours. Dr. Green said that if anything comes up during that time that he will call her. Cathy picked up Linda’s hand and looked at her pale face. She told her that she will be alright and that they will be back later. Cathy laid Linda’s hand back down on the bed and walked away.
“Hang in there cuz, I’ll see you soon,” Joann said as she followed her aunt.
Cathy and Joann left the room and headed to the elevator. Joann asked if they could have Chinese food. It was Linda’s favorite and Joann would like to order some egg rolls just for her. Cathy agreed that Chinese food would taste good right now. So, the two of them stepped into the elevator and hit the button for the lobby.
