Joann stopped and aunt Cathy stopped right next to her. The two of them looked up into the sky and watched as this large dark craft hovered over the grassy field. The wind coming from the craft was so strong that it was blowing the grass flat.
“Is that a helicopter?” Joann asked.
“I don’t think so. I think that we would be able to hear it if it was,” Cathy pulled her hair from her face.
The spotlight from the craft lit up the whole grassy area below it. As Cathy and Joann watched the craft, they saw a door underneath it slide open. The intensity of the light made it hard to see what was going on by the door. They could only see dark shadows moving inside of the doorway, as the craft hovered there for about five minutes.
Suddenly, the light got brighter and something was being lowered down within the light. Cathy and Joann grabbed onto each other with fear and uncertainty. They couldn’t make out what was coming down in the light.
“I think that we should go,” Cathy said.
“No, let’s wait and see what it is,” Joann watched.
When the object touched the ground, the door slid closed, and all lights turned off. The now completely dark craft drifted up higher into the sky and instantly disappeared. Cathy and Joann looked toward the now dark area where the object came down. Joann shined her flashlight and saw something lying in the grass. The two of them cautiously made their way toward the object. When they got close enough to see, they saw it was a person lying there.
The person had long, wet, blonde hair, was naked, and was shivering.
“Linda?” Cathy ran over to her.
Joann ran after Cathy and stopped. She stood there bewildered while Cathy cradled Linda in her arms. Linda opened her eyes and saw her mom holding her.
“Mom?”
Joann knelt down by Linda and grabbed her hand. She didn’t know what to say to her so she just smiled.
“Joann? Where am I?” Linda asked with a hoarse voice.
“You’re going to be all right now dear… Joann, take off your jacket,” Cathy sat Linda up.
Joann handed her aunt Cathy her jacket. Cathy helped Linda put it on and then took off her own jacket. The two of them helped Linda stand up, and Cathy wrapped her jacket around Linda’s waist. Grabbing Linda’s arms, Joann and her aunt helped Linda walk. It took them about fifteen minutes to get to the car, and Linda collapsed out of exhaustion. Cathy carefully helped her daughter into the back seat where she could lie down.
“Should we call the police?” Joann asked her aunt.
“I’ll do that after we get her home,” Cathy closed the back door.
Joann climbed into the front seat of the car, and looked back at her cousin, “It’s so good to see you again.
Linda smiled ever so slightly and then laid down on the seat. Cathy got into the driver's seat and took the girls home. On the way home, Joann couldn’t help but think of what just happened. Joann looked at aunt Cathy and asked her if what they had just seen was real. Cathy looked at Joann and told her that they will talk about it tomorrow. For now, her duty was to get her daughter home where it was safe.
When they arrived at the house, a patrol car was parked out front in the street. Deputy Rhonda Dean was walking away from the front door when Cathy pulled into the driveway and parked the car. Joann got out of the car first and said hello to the deputy. Cathy got out and told deputy Dean that she was going to call her in a little while. Deputy Dean asked if they went to the preserve like the message that she was given had said. Cathy walked to the back door of her car and opened it.
“Yes, we did, and look who we found.”
Deputy Dean glanced in the car and saw Linda lying on the back seat. Joann walked around the car to help her aunt with Linda. Cathy helped Linda out of the car and the four of them walked up to the house. Cathy unlocked the door and they went inside.
“You might as well come in deputy,” Cathy said.
Cathy and Joann walked Linda to her bedroom. Cathy asked Joann to help Linda clean up and change her into some warm clothes. And Cathy went back into the living room to talk to Deputy Dean.
