After everyone had breakfast, Linda was feeling tired. She decided to lie down on the sofa and watch television. Joann helped her aunt Cathy clean up and do the dishes. It was around 11:30 am now when they all heard the front doorbell ring.
“I bet that’s deputy Dean,” Cathy said to Joann and walked into the living room.
It was in fact deputy Dean and sheriff Luis at the door when Cathy answered it. Deputy Dean told the sheriff last night what Cathy had told about her daughter Linda being abducted by aliens. The sheriff wanted to meet Cathy and Linda and observe how much of this is true or if it was all a hoax. Cathy invited them in and offered them some coffee. She also told them that they were in the ER early this morning because Linda was having pain in her ears. Linda sat up quickly when she saw it was the sheriff entering her living room. Joann walked out of the kitchen and sat down next to Linda on the sofa. Cathy and deputy Dean stood and watched as sheriff Luis sat down on the chair across from the sofa.
“Good morning Linda,” sheriff Luis said.
“Good morning sheriff and deputy Dean,” Linda looked at them both.
“I understand that you aren’t feeling well after you returned home last night,” the sheriff said.
“I’m feeling a little better now that the pain in my head and ears eased up,” Linda said.
The sheriff came right out and asked Linda if she remembers anything about the last couple of days. She told him that everything still seems foggy to her, but she remembers seeing trees and a lot of green around her. He asked her what she means by green and she said like moss, it was everywhere. Cathy reminded Linda about the dream that she had and asked if she thought it might be a memory.
Linda paused for a moment, “yes, and I saw tall dark grey figures standing over me like they were studying me.”
“Did they say anything to you?” The deputy asked.
“No, I don’t think so,” Linda looked at her.
“Do you remember a spacecraft?” Sheriff Luis asked Linda.
“No, it’s still pretty foggy. I remember taking a walk at the preserve and then I woke up looking into my mom’s eyes last night,” Linda said.
The sheriff looked at Cathy, “you told deputy Dean that Linda was naked when you found her. Did you get a rape kit done while you were at the hospital?”
“No, she was abducted by aliens, not a man. And besides, I made her take a bath last night to get warmed up,” Cathy said.
“Joann, you were with your aunt at the preserve last night correct?”
“Yes.”
“Tell me, what did you see while you were there looking for your cousin?” The sheriff asked.
Joann went on to tell the sheriff about the bright light in the sky, and that it hovered about fifteen feet over the ground. She told him that the craft looked really big and dark in color. But it was dark out so it was hard to see how big. She also said that she saw her cousin being lowered down in the light.
“How do you know that your cousin wasn’t there on the ground before you saw the light?” Sheriff Luis asked.
Joann looked at her aunt Cathy and then back at the sheriff, “well, I don’t, but we saw something come down in the light.”
“Mom, I’m tired,” Linda looked at Cathy.
Cathy asked the sheriff if he was done interrogating the girls and said that Linda needs to rest. Sheriff Luis stood up and told them that he is only trying to get to the truth of the matter. Cathy told him that they are telling the truth, and walked toward the front door. The sheriff followed Cathy, knowing that he wore out his welcome there.
“Linda, I hope that you feel better soon, and please contact me when you remember anything else,” deputy Dean handed Linda her business card.
“Thank you, deputy,” Linda smiled at her.
Sheriff Luis walked out the front door and onto the porch. Cathy held the door open for deputy Dean when she caught up to them. Cathy looked at sheriff Luis and told him that even though he doesn’t believe her story, thank you for stopping by. Deputy Dean smiled and nodded at Cathy as she followed the sheriff down the steps.
