Joann borrowed her aunt Cathy’s car and drove down to the coffee shop by the mall. She had previously texted her friend Marcy to meet her down there. When Joann arrived, she couldn’t wait to tell her friend about the spaceship that she and her aunt saw. Marcy was waiting for Joann outside and hugged her when she walked up to her. When the two of them went inside the coffee shop, Jeff Bower was working at the counter.
“Hello ladies, what can I get for you?” Jeff asked.
Marcy ordered a large vanilla iced coffee and Joann ordered a medium caramel macchiato. Jeff asked Joann how Linda was doing and she was surprised by that. Jeff explained that Cathy called him earlier to let him know that Linda was home now. Because Joann couldn’t hold it in any longer, she told Marcy and Jeff that Linda was abducted by aliens, and she thinks that they did something to her. Marcy and Jeff stared at Joann and then burst out laughing.
“Come on, I’m not kidding, It’s the truth. My aunt and I both saw the spaceship bring her back,” Joann said.
Jeff composed himself and got the ingredients to make Joann and Marcy’s drinks. Marcy touched Joann’s arm and reassured her that she believes her and that she was just caught off guard. Marcy guided Joann to a small table off to the side and sat down.
“Okay, tell me all about it,” Marcy said.
Joann went on to tell Marcy that last night she and her aunt Cathy saw a bright light in the sky out at the preserve. They weren’t sure what it was at first until they got closer.
“So you are telling me that you saw little green men carry Linda down from a spaceship?” Marcy asked.
“No, the aliens stayed inside the ship. It was the bright light that shot out of the door that lowered her to the ground,” Joann said.
Jeff carried the drinks over to Joann and Marcy’s table and set them down. He didn’t have any other customers so he stood there and listened to what Joann was saying. She told them about the ear pain and drainage that her cousin was dealing with now. Joann said that Linda has never had an ear infection before so why now? Jeff told Joann that a friend of his once said that he saw a bright light hovering in the sky out at the preserve. He said that he thought it was a police helicopter and he hi-tailed it out of there.
“I know that this sounds crazy but it’s what happened, and I think that something bad is going to happen to Linda,” Joann sipped her macchiato.
Back at the house, Linda woke up and saw her mom sitting in the chair reading the newspaper. Linda noticed the tissue’s on her shoulder and they were moist from the fluid draining. Cathy looked past her paper and saw Linda getting up. Cathy asked Linda where she was going and she told her the bathroom. Cathy could tell that her daughter was still groggy, as she staggered a little when she got up.
“Let me know if you need anything dear,” Cathy said.
“Okay, I will,” Linda said as she left the room.
About ten minutes passed and Cathy became concerned. She got up and went to the bathroom to check on Linda. The bathroom door was open and Linda wasn’t there. Cathy walked down the hall to Linda’s bedroom, and as she turned to walk in, Linda was lying face down on the floor.
“Linda,” Cathy knelt by her.
Linda didn’t move or say anything so Cathy ran to get her cell phone. She dialed 911 as she hurried back into Linda’s bedroom. Cathy told the operator that her daughter is unresponsive but still breathing. Cathy tried to get some kind of response from Linda, but she did nothing. The operator told Cathy that the paramedics should be there soon and not to move Linda.
About seven minutes passed and the paramedics pounded on the door. Cathy ran to let them in and told them where Linda was. They checked Linda’s vitals and then lifted her onto the gurney. Cathy rode along in the rescue squad and waited for her daughter to wake up.
“Is she going to be okay?” Cathy cried.
The paramedic reassured Cathy that they were doing all that they could for Linda and that the hospital will be able to do more. It took about eight minutes to get to the hospital and they rushed Linda inside. Cathy told the one nurse that she and Linda were there earlier this morning with ear and head pain. The nurse then looked up Linda’s file and saw what it said. They rushed Linda into a room and the nurse took her vitals again.
Dr. Sarah Johns walked into the room and checked Linda’s pulse. She looked into Linda’s ears again and saw a small amount of blood. She told the nurse to order an MRI this time.
“Doctor, is she going to be okay?” Cathy asked.
“We’ll do an MRI this time and see what it tells us. Maybe it will show us something that the CT scan didn’t,” Dr. John’s said.
