Cathy closed the front door and walked into the living room. Linda laid back down on the sofa and sighed.
“He doesn’t believe us does he?” Joann looked at her aunt Cathy.
“Well, I probably wouldn’t believe it either if I didn’t see it,” Cathy sat down on the chair.
“Did I really come down in a spaceship?” Linda looked at her mom.
“Yes, at least that’s what it looked like to us. You don’t remember any of it yet do you?”
Linda shook her head no and laid it down on the throw pillow. Joann looked at Linda, and then her aunt. As Linda lay there on the sofa, she felt something in her left ear. She sat up quickly and more white fluid started to run out of her ear. Cathy grabbed a few tissues and handed them to Linda.
“Let me see if Walgreens texted me yet,” Cathy dug into her purse.
“Is she okay? Linda are you okay?” Joann frantically asked.
“Yes, it’s just an infection,” Linda wiped the fluid away and grabbed another tissue.
“Did they test that fluid? It could be something the aliens put inside your head,” Joann said.
“They did a CT scan and didn’t find anything in her head,” Cathy looked at her phone.
“I don’t know, that just doesn’t seem right,” Joann watched her cousin wipe more fluid away.
“Well, Walgreens didn’t message me so your medication isn’t ready yet.” Cathy looked at Linda.
Linda grabbed a couple more tissues and held them up to her ear. Cathy asked Linda if she was in any pain and she said no. Joann tried to focus on the show on the television but occasionally looked at Linda. She had a feeling that something wasn’t quite normal with Linda. Linda looked at the tissue and the seepage seemed to stop again. She laid her head back against the back of the sofa instead of lying back down.
Cathy decided to go into the kitchen and call Linda’s friends to let them know that Linda is home now. Joann watched television while Linda drifted off to sleep. Cathy called Linda’s roommates first and told them that she will be staying at home for a few days. Cathy didn’t go into detail about where Linda was. She told them that Linda will tell them where she was when she is ready. Everyone that Cathy talked to was relieved that Linda was back home and doing alright.
Joann got up and walked into the kitchen as her aunt hung up her phone. Joann told her aunt that Linda was sleeping so she was going to take a shower. Cathy told Joann that she let most of Linda’s friends know that Linda is home now. Joann suggested that she could go on Facebook too and post that Linda is back.
“Could you do that for me when you get done with your shower?” Cathy asked.
“Sure.”
Joann went to take her shower while Cathy went back into the living room. She sat down on the chair and looked at Linda sleeping so peacefully. What happened to you up there, she thought. As Cathy watched her daughter sleep, she noticed the fluid from Linda’s ear was dripping again. She got up, took a few tissues, and put them on Linda’s shoulder to catch the drips. Linda was so tired that she didn’t wake up when her mom did that.
About twenty minutes passed and Joann walked back into the living room clean and dressed. Linda moved her head slightly but didn’t wake up.
“Aunt Cathy, since she is sleeping, is it alright if I go out for a while and see my old friends?” Joann spoke softly.
Cathy hesitated but smiled, “sure, but please be back home in a couple of hours. And if you are going to be late, let me know please?”
“Okay, thank you. I’ll see you both later,” Joann hurried to the front door.
Cathy watched some television while she kept an eye on her daughter. Linda pulled her feet up onto the sofa, rolled over to her left side, and fell back to sleep. The tissues surprisingly stayed on her shoulder to catch any dripping.
