Linda, Joann, and Cathy sat down at the dining table for their taco dinner. Linda took a bite of her taco and thought about her conversation with Mrs. Brown. Joann was all smiles thinking about her date with Jack, while she ate her taco. Cathy looked at her daughter and noticed that she seemed to be thinking of something.
“Linda, are you alright?” Her mom asked.
Linda looked at her mom and smiled, “yes, I’m fine. These tacos are really good mom,” Linda took another bite of her taco.
Cathy noticed the smile on Joann’s face and asked if she made a date with Jack. Joann nodded her head yes and finished chewing.
“Yes, I’m meeting him tomorrow night at the pizza place,” Joann said.
“That’s good, at least this way you won’t go back to school with regrets of not going on one date with him,” Cathy said.
“He does seem really nice,” Joann picked up another taco.
Linda couldn’t help but think about Mrs. Brown and how hard it must be not knowing where her son is, “mom, I want to help Mrs. Brown find her son.”
Cathy looked at Linda, “what made you think of that right now?”
“Well, I called her before… I also told her about my vision,” Linda said.
Joann looked at Linda, “why did you do that? You just filled Mrs. Brown’s head with high hopes that you have no proof of.”
“She’s not stupid. She understands that it was only a vision,” Linda said.
“Well, how do you want to help her?” Cathy asked Linda.
Linda took a drink of Mountain Dew and proceeded to tell her mom and cousin her plan.
At Salt Lake Preserve, deputy Rhonda Dean climbed into her patrol car and scanned through the pictures she took with her cell phone. While she sat there looking at her phone, she saw a vehicle’s headlights pull into the parking lot. Rhonda watched to see what the vehicle was going to do before she got out of her car. The person in the vehicle turned on their high beams and then turned them back off. The vehicle then backed up out of the parking lot and drove away.
“I wonder who that was. They must have recognized my patrol car,” Rhonda said.
Just then, sheriff Luis called Rhonda's cell phone and asked her where she was. Rhonda told him that she was going to be leaving the preserve in a minute and would head back to the station. The sheriff told her to hang out there for a few more minutes just in case Mrs. Brown shows up. He told her what Mrs. Brown said about going into the UFO’s light if it shows up. Rhonda told the sheriff that Mrs. Brown might have just been there and left. But the sheriff told her to hang out there a little longer just in case.
“Okay sheriff, I’ll leave here in about fifteen minutes then,” Rhonda said.
The sheriff hung up the phone and sat back in his chair. I wish that there was a way to bring closure to Mrs. Brown, he thought.
While Rhonda sat there waiting, she saw a white light in the distant sky. She stared at it and waited for a red or blue light to appear with it, but it didn’t. Hmm, I wonder what that is, she thought. She watched it as it appeared to get closer and larger. The bright light was shining down. She opened her car door and got out to look when she heard the engine.
“It’s just a helicopter,” Rhonda watched as it flew over.
She climbed back into her car and looked at the clock on her computer screen. Rhonda knew that she had to hang around there for at least another ten minutes. She looked out her windshield off to the west this time and saw something. Did that helicopter go around, she thought. Rhonda watched as she saw three bright white lights suddenly appear. It slowly moved over the top of the mountain and hovered there. Rhonda got out of her car again and closed the door.
Just then, Cathy drove into the preserve parking lot with Linda and Joann. She saw deputy Dean standing there looking up and pulled into a space two spaces away from her. All three of them got out of the car to see what deputy Dean was looking at.
“Mom, they’re here,” Linda rushed to the front of the car.
“You know that you aren’t supposed to be here,” Rhonda shined her flashlight at them.
“I know Rhonda, but Linda wants to help,” Cathy walked over to deputy Dean.
“It’s too dangerous, I don’t even want to go up there. You saw what they did to your daughter,” Rhonda looked at Cathy.
Linda ran over to Rhonda, “Miss Dean, I have to do this for Mrs. Brown. She needs to have her son back.”
“What are you going to do, talk to them?” Rhonda looked at Linda.
“Yes… I talked to them before, and that’s why they brought me back,” Linda said.
Rhonda looked at Linda and then looked at Cathy and Joann, “okay, let’s go up there. But I’m holding you responsible Cathy.”
Linda smiled and followed deputy Dean through the gate. Cathy and Joann followed behind them. As they walked toward the mountain, the spacecraft started to move away.
“No, they can’t leave yet,” Linda hollered.
“Hold on Linda, I think that they might be moving to the open field,” Rhonda said.
Deputy Dean and the others stopped and watched the spacecraft as it slowly and quietly moved to the open field. The lights shined so brightly that they lit up the whole area. As the deputy changed her direction, Linda, Cathy, and Joann followed her. When they got closer, Linda ran into the field and called out.
“I’m here, I’m here,” Linda jumped up and down waving her arms.
“Linda, wait,” Cathy called out to her.
Rhonda stopped Cathy and Joann from going any further into the field. The three of them watched as an opening appeared on the bottom of the spacecraft.
Looking up, Linda called out to the beings inside, “please let Darren come back.”
Five minutes had passed when a brighter light appeared in the opening as Linda stood below and watched. Cathy grabbed onto Joann’s hand as they all watched and wondered what was going to happen. Linda saw some movement in the opening like before, but didn’t feel any kind of force this time. They weren’t taking her this time. Instead, they were dropping someone or something off.
Rhonda, Cathy, and Joann stared up at the light and saw a dark object slowly coming down.
“What is it?” Rhonda called out to Linda.
“I’m not sure yet,” Linda said.
As the dark object got lower to the ground, Linda could tell it was a human body. Linda backed up as the body gently landed on the ground. The bright light then disappeared and the opening closed. Rhonda, Cathy, and Joann saw two dark shadows now where Linda was standing. The spacecraft then slowly rose higher in the sky, dimmed its other three lights, and flew off.
“Linda?” Cathy called out.
“It’s okay mom. It’s okay now,” Linda said as she knelt by his side.
Deputy Dean, Cathy, and Joann rushed over to where Linda was kneeling. There they saw Linda holding a naked but conscious young man’s hand.
“Is that?” Joann said.
“Yes, this is Darren Brown. Mrs. Brown’s son,” Linda smiled.
Darren sat there trying to comprehend what just happened. Rhonda took off her jacket and gave it to Darren. He carefully stood up with Linda’s help and put the jacket on. Linda took her jacket off so that Darren could cover his lower half as well.
“Do you know how long you were gone?” Linda asked him.
“Um, no, not really,” Darren shivered.
“Well, let’s talk about that later. Let’s just get you warmed up,” deputy Dean coaxed Linda to get moving.
Linda held onto Darren’s arm to assist him, while they all walked to deputy Dean’s car.
