The next morning Cathy woke Joann up around eight o’clock. She was anxious to see how her daughter Linda was doing. Joann got up and took a quick shower before she grabbed some coffee to go. Cathy and Joann arrived at the hospital around 9:15 and went up to the third floor. Linda had just finished eating the hospital scrambled eggs and sausage for breakfast. She took a sip of orange juice and it felt like it burned when she swallowed it. Linda shoved that aside and drank some water instead.
Cathy and Joann stepped off the elevator and walked down the hall to Linda’s room. The door to Linda’s room was partially closed so Cathy knocked on it.
“Linda, it’s your mom and Joann, can we come in?”
“Yes, come in mom,” Linda called out.
Linda looked more lively and even had more color on her face. Cathy walked up to Linda’s bedside and kissed Linda’s forehead.
“Good morning cuz,” Joann walked to the other side of the bed.
Cathy noticed the empty plate in front of Linda, “what did they give you for breakfast?”
“Scrambled eggs and two sausage links, but I’m still hungry,” Linda said.
“Well, you have to pace yourself, sweetheart. You just had surgery and you have to take things slow,” Cathy smiled at her.
Linda picked up the remote and started to change the channels on the television. Joann sat down in the chair next to the bed and watched the TV as the channels changed.
“Stop. There's “The View”,” Joann called out.
“Nah, I don’t want to watch that,” Linda said.
“But we used to watch that all the time together,” Joann said.
“I know, but I don’t want to this time,” Linda continued to change the channels.
Just as the food service worker walked in to collect Linda’s tray, Linda found the movie.
“Here it is. I fell asleep to this last night,” Linda said.
“Yeah, I did too. It’s a good movie,” Joann said.
As the service worker cleaned up the table and took the tray, Cathy thanked him. The girls watched the movie while Cathy walked out into the hallway and called deputy Rhonda Dean. Cathy told her that Linda made it through surgery and is doing well so far. As Cathy and Rhonda talked, Linda told Joann that she either dreamt it or remembers what happened to her. Joann looked at Linda and listened to what she was saying about the dark grey cloud in the sky.
As Linda was telling Joann about the skinny grey arms reaching down to her, her mom walked back into the room.
“Aunt Cathy, Linda is remembering her abduction,” Joann said.
Cathy stood by Linda’s bedside and listened to the similarities in what she and Joann saw. Linda said that she woke up before she went inside of the cloud but when she fell back to sleep, she dreamt some more. She said that when the grey arms pulled her inside, she saw the rest of them. They were tall, grey, and slender. They didn’t have big eyes like some people say they do. They were narrow and small. Linda said that they walked her to another part of the spaceship and sat her down in a strange-looking chair. As she sat down, invisible straps wrapped around her chest and held her tight to the back of the chair.
Linda said that she felt the same tight strap feeling with her wrists to the arms of the chair. And her thighs were also strapped down. She said that she struggled to get out of it but could barely move. Then Linda told her mom and Joann that after the grey men put some kind of metal device on her head, she blacked out.
“I woke up again after that and didn’t see anymore when I fell back to sleep. Do you think that really happened to me?” Linda looked at her mom.
“It’s very possible. As we told you, we saw you come back in a spaceship,” Cathy said.
Just then, Dr. Green walked in with nurse Jackson, “good morning.”
“Good morning,” Cathy and the girls said together.
Dr. Green walked up to Linda and asked how she was feeling. Nurse Jackson checked the fluid bag that hung at the head of Linda’s bed. Linda told the doctor that she was feeling good but hungry. The doctor looked into Linda’s eyes and ears and took note that they all looked good. He asked her what she remembers from the last couple of days so she told him. Because he wasn’t sure about the alleged alien abduction thing, he asked her about the days leading up to that day.
Linda told him that she remembers hanging out with her roommates at the coffee shop. Also, she was talking to Joann on the phone before she was taken by the aliens. Dr. Green looked at Joann and saw that she was nodding yes.
“Okay, good. Your memory before the incident seems to be there. Now, Dr. John’s will be in later today and she will check the incision on your head,” Dr. Green smiled at Linda.
“You don’t believe that I was taken by aliens do you?” Linda asked Dr. Green.
“It’s not that I don’t believe what you say Linda, but the idea of aliens is hard to understand. Now, you just rest, and I’ll check on you later,” Dr. Green walked toward the door.
“Thank you, doctor,” Cathy said.
Dr. Green turned and smiled, and then left the room. Joann asked Linda questions about what the inside of the spacecraft looked like. Linda told her that she saw green plants everywhere. It was almost like walking into a greenhouse only not as hot. Cathy asked her if she heard any other voices inside of the ship, and that made Linda stop and think.
“No, I don’t think so. I don’t remember anymore,” Linda laid her head back onto her pillow.
Cathy patted Linda’s arm and smiled at her before she sat down in the chair next to her. Joann and Linda then focused on the movie on the television. The movie was at the point where the scientist was going to communicate for the first time with the alien.
