Brandy Cooper, a little blonde-haired seven year old was exited about the Christmas father and daughter dance. Because Brandy’s father was always so busy with his job, she was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to take her. When he told his daughter yes he would, her mother Janet planned a dress shopping date with her.
When Brandy and her mother were browsing the store, Brandy’s eyes lit up when she saw the perfect dress for the dance. It was a red dress that hung just below her knees. The price was a little higher then Janet wanted to pay, but it was for a special occasion.
When the night came for the dance, Janet got worried. Brandy’s father was running late without a phone call. Janet helped Brandy get dressed and styled her hair with curls. Brandy noticed that the sun was setting and her father hadn’t come home yet. Janet tried to reassure Brandy that she will still go to the dance either way, but Brandy’s mood saddened. Just then the phone rang and Janet answered. It was Brandy’s father and he said that he couldn’t make it after all.
After Janet told Brandy that her father couldn’t make it, tears flooded Brandy’s eyes. Just then the doorbell rang so Janet went to answer it. Standing on the front porch was a handsome man dressed in a black tux and holding a white corsage. Janet smiled and called out for Brandy. As Brandy walked out of her bedroom and wiped the tears from her eyes, she saw the well dressed man standing in the foyer.
“Uncle Joe,” Brandy ran into his arms, “are you my date for the dance?”
“Yes I am princess and your dad is sorry that he couldn’t make it this time.”
“Well, at least I still get to go, right mom?” Brandy grabbed onto her uncle’s hand.
Janet unboxed the corsage and clipped the white rose onto Brandy’s wrist. Janet then snapped a couple photos of them for the photo album.
“You two have fun tonight but don’t stay out too late,” Janet smiled.
Brandy smiled at her mom and then tugged her uncle’s arm. As Joe glanced back, Janet mouthed the words, thank you. Brandy might not have had her dad at the dance, but she was with a man who had always been a close father figure to her.
I hope that you enjoyed the happy ending to this short story. Some parents have really busy lives to where one of them can’t always be there for their children. It’s not always the parents fault when they can’t be there, sometimes the important job just get’s in the way.
It's a very sweet story showing thoughtfulness and gratitude.
