When Dukee was done eating the treats that Auntie gave him, he walked back into the front living room. He jumped up onto the side table and walked to the end. This time he hopped down onto the blanket that’s on top of Mia’s litter box cabinet and laid down. He looked out the window and waited for something to show up.
Mia trotted from her bedroom, through the family room, down the hall, and into the front living room. She jumped up onto the table where her food was and drank some water. She turned around toward the kitty tower and noticed Dukee laying on the blanket.
“Oh, hi there,” Mia jumped up to the top of her kitty tower.
“Hi,” Dukee looked at her.
“Mom just gave me some treats,” Mia licked around her mouth.
“I had some too like I said I probably would,” Dukee said.
“Well, mine is better than yours,” Mia licked her paw.
“No, they’re not,” Dukee looked at her.
“Hey look over there… by the woods,” Mia lifted her paw.
“Yeah, it’s a bunny rabbit… Just in time for Easter,” Dukee said.
“What’s Easter?” Mia laid down and watched the bunny.
“Well, humans present Easter in different ways, with bunnies, and eggs, and treats. But it’s mostly about Jesus, our savior who died for us,” Dukee adjusted his laying position.
“Is that why Auntie decorated these trees?” Mia asked.
“Well, the decorations are just for fun… But it’s a spiritual celebration for Jesus.”
“Why did Jesus die for us?” Mia asked.
“Because we are sinners… And for us to be forgiven for all the bad things we do, Jesus gave his life for ours,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Wow… I didn’t know that I was a sinner,” Mia looked at the bunny.
“Yeah, sometimes we don’t realize it,” Dukee looked at the bunny.
“Is Mom a sinner?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Yes, and so is Auntie… But they try not to be,” Dukee said.
“Mom makes me mad sometimes, but I don’t think of her as a sinner,” Mia said.
“See, right there you said she makes you mad… You aren’t supposed to be mad because that can be a sin,” Dukee licked his paw.
“Really?”
“Yep, we are supposed to be good all the time,” Dukee said.
“But you aren’t good all the time,” Mia said.
“No I’m not, but I should be. See that’s why Jesus died for us because sometimes we can’t help ourselves,” Dukee said.
“Well, I’m going to try and be a good girl from now on,” Mia licked her paw.
“Yeah, I will believe that until the next time I hear your Mom say ouch after you swiped at her,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“I know… I don’t know what gets into me sometimes,” Mia looked out the window.
Happy Easter everyone.
