Mia was the first one awake and roaming the house. Auntie awoke and heard Mia’s soft meows in the other room. She must be playing with her Lamb-chop again, Auntie thought. Mia talks to her Lamb-chop toy quite a bit, especially when her mom has left the house. Dukee yawned, got up, and hopped down off his bed. He arched his back to give it a good stretch. Dukee heard Mia’s meows as well and walked out into the family room.
Mia was lying by her Lamb-chop in the main walkway at the front of the house. Dukee looked down the hallway and saw Mia so he walked up to her.
“Your meows are getting louder,” Dukee sat down about two feet away from her.
“That’s because I’m a big girl now,” Mia licked the top of her paw.
“Yes, you have grown some since I first met you,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Hey, how come Auntie didn’t write our story yesterday?” Mia asked.
“Remember your mom and her went out yesterday morning to the beach? I think that she’s writing it today,” Dukee scratched his neck.
“Oh yeah… Well, she could have written it in the afternoon,” Mia sat up.
“I don’t think that she was feeling well,” Dukee said.
“Oh, okay. How is she feeling today?” Mia asked.
“I guess better. Sometimes it’s hard to tell because she puts on a brave face a lot,” Dukee walked past Mia to look out the window by the front door.
Mia turned around and walked to the other window, “What do you mean a brave face?”
“Well, sometimes she will smile and act alright when she really isn’t,” Dukee watched as a lizard on the screen porch floor scurried up the screen.
“But, why do that? If I don’t feel well I let everyone know,” Mia looked out the window.
“Well, you must not feel well a lot then,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Why do you say that?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Because you hiss a lot and I see the scratches that you leave on your Mom and sometimes on Auntie,” Dukee jumped up onto the side table.
“Oh, well I just like to tell you all when to leave me alone, that’s all,” Mia looked up at Dukee.
Dukee walked to the end of the side table and sat down. Mia walked up onto the bottom shelf of the side table and walked to the end. She snuck out between the leather sofa and the litter box cabinet and jumped up onto the kitty tower. Both of them watched as a yellow and black butterfly fluttered around outside of the window.
“So if Auntie hasn’t been feeling well how is she going to continue to write?” Mia climbed up into the tunnel part of the kitty tower.
“She’s just going to try her best and do what she can to keep her readers entertained,” Dukee said.
“Oh, okay. Well, that’s cool then,” Mia looked out the window.
Dukee and Mia watched out the window, as another butterfly flew by the flowers, and a couple of birds landed in the tree in the front yard. Where there are critters to watch, there are cats to be watching. Have a great day everyone.
