In the morning before anyone else was out of their bedrooms, Dukee walked into the front living room. He jumped up onto the table where Mia’s food is and sniffed it. Her food doesn’t appeal to him whatsoever, so he turned and stepped up onto the kitty tower. He stretched his front paws out onto the scratch post and clawed at it.
While he stretched, he looked out the window and saw one of his favorite critters. Oh, a squirrel, he thought. He pulled himself up onto the top of the kitty tower and watched the squirrel. The squirrel dug around a little bit in the soft, moist ground and picked something up… he or she must have found a nut. On the nut, the squirrel nibbled until it paused as someone with a dog walked past in the street.
Dukee has watched this squirrel many times but still finds it fascinating. He or she has little white patches of hair on the back of his ears which makes it stand out. It wasn’t long though before the squirrel ran off toward the other side of the driveway. Maybe it’s going to the backyard, Dukee thought.
He hopped down off the kitty tower and down to the floor. As he walked past the sofa toward the hallway, Mia walked towards him.
“What are you doing?” Mia asked.
“Just going to look out the big glass doors, I think a squirrel might be back there” Dukee stopped.
“What makes you think that?” Mia asked.
“I was watching one upfront there but he ran across the driveway,” Dukee said.
Dukee started to walk into the family room to go to the sliding doors and Mia turned and followed.
“See, there it is,” Dukee watched as it walked on the top of the fence.
“Oh wait, that’s a different one,” Dukee said.
Mia watched for a minute or so with Dukee, but then turned and walked toward the kitchen.
“Where are you going?” Dukee asked.
“To get something to eat,” Mia said.
She walked into the dining area this time and sniffed around a couple of bags by a chair. And then, walked into the front living room and hopped up by her food. While she was eating, Dukee walked back in there and jumped up onto the side table. He walked to the end of it and sat down.
Mia finished eating and hopped up onto the kitty tower to look out the front window.
“Hey, look at that,” Mia looked up.
“What is that?” Dukee looked up too.
“I don’t think that’s a bird,” Mia watched as it hovered low in the sky.
Just then they saw someone walking down the street in the same direction with something in their hand, and looking up.
“Do you think that they are making that fly?” Mia asked.
“Yeah maybe,” Dukee watched as the thing flew up and then down a little.
The person stopped and continued to look up at the thing. I believe the thing is called a drone. Something that people can take pictures or video with while it flies high in the sky.
Dukee and Mia watched the drone, while the person turned and walked back the other way. The drone also turned, and slowly flew back in the direction it came until they couldn’t see it anymore.
“Well, that was interesting,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Yeah, it was, I haven’t seen anything like that before,” Mia said.
