About a half-hour, after Auntie and Mom went to bed, Dukee walked into the front living room. Mia was at her food dish nibbling on some food. Dukee walked around to the front of the reclining sofa and jumped up onto the top of the kitty tower.
“Hey, what are you doing, that’s my tower,” Mia turned and looked up.
“Oh, I didn’t see you there,” Dukee said with a startled voice.
“Psst psst.”
“Did you hear that?” Mia walked over and peeked out the window.
“Hello my pretty one and good evening Dukee,” Rafael put his front paws up at the base of the window.
“Hi there,” Mia responded with a giggle.
“Hi Rafael, how are you?” Dukee looked down at Rafael.
Mia walked around, hopped up, and crawled into the tunnel part of the kitty tower.
“I’m doing very well thank you. I was on my way out of the neighborhood when I saw you jump up there. So I thought that I would stop by for a few minutes,” Rafael adjusted his footing.
“Where are you going?” Mia asked.
“I’m going to take a walk up toward the main road area and see what might be going on there,” Rafael looked at Mia.
“Why, did you hear about something?” Dukee asked.
“Yes, I heard the human who I live with telling his friend that he saw a bobcat up there,” Rafael looked up at Dukee.
“Wow, a bobcat? I think bobcats are pretty,” Mia said.
Dukee looked down at Mia, “I don’t think that you would be thinking that if you came face to face with one.”
“Yes I would, and I would tell it that too,” Mia looked up at Dukee.
Dukee giggled and looked back at Rafael, “so what are you going to do if you come face to face with it?”
“Well, I don’t want to come face to face with it, so I will be careful with my movements. You know, same as when we prowl to find and catch something, we are careful not to get caught ourselves,” Rafael looked at the bottom of his paw.
“Oh yes, that makes sense,” Dukee said.
“I understand wanting to see a bobcat, but don’t you think that it’s risky?” Mia looked at Rafael.
“Yes, but I live for the excitement. I’m not one who just sits around and waits for the excitement to come to me. I go to where the excitement might be,” Rafael said.
“I only get that feeling once in a while but it soon passes. I don’t like not feeling safe,” Dukee said.
“Yeah me neither. As it is, sometimes in the house I get scared of the sounds I hear outside,” Mia said.
“Yes, that’s understandable. It can get noisy out here at times, and dangerous too,” Rafael looked at Mia.
“Well, I just hope that nothing happens to you,” Mia said.
“Don’t you worry, I’ll be fine,” Rafael looked at Mia. “Well, I shall talk to you both at another time. You both have a good night,” Rafael dropped down on all four of his feet.
“Good night Rafael,” Dukee said.
“Stay safe out there,” Mia said.
The two of them watched Rafael trot out of the front yard and into the neighbors. They saw him trot behind the neighbor’s truck and across their driveway. Soon after that, he disappeared into the darkness.
“I think he’s crazy,” Mia looked up at Dukee.
“Do you mean crazy for looking for that bobcat?” Dukee asked.
“Yes. It’s a wild animal, and it’s bigger than him,” Mia backed out of the tunnel.
“Well, I’m sure that he’ll be careful,” Dukee stepped down onto the tunnel and then down onto the litter box cabinet.
Mia turned and walked onto the table. She walked over to her water dish and drank some water. Dukee hopped down onto the floor in front of the reclining sofa.
“Well, I’m going to bed,” Dukee yawned. “Good night Mia.”
“Good night,” Mia turned her head in Dukee’s direction.
