Dukee stood up and stretched his front paws out in front of him. Ahh what a good nap, he thought. He hopped down off the bed and then walked over to his food dish. He crunched on a few kernels and then walked over to his water bowl. With his front paw, he dipped it into the water a couple of times to make it move. He took a drink as he put his paw down on the mat. While he was drinking he heard Mia run quickly through the family room and down the hallway.
Curious as to what Mia was doing, Dukee walked out of his room and into the family room. Mia ran back down the hall right past Dukee, leaving his hair blowing in the breeze that she created. He watched as she ran and bumped the door going into her bedroom. Mia jumped up onto the window sill and looked at Mom sitting on the edge of her bed. As Mom put her slippers socks on Mia jumped back down to the floor and jumped up onto the chair that is in their bedroom. Mom stood up and walked over to the dresser where Mia’s special treats are.
Mia jumped from the chair and onto the bed. She trotted over to where Mom was standing with her treat container. Mia held her paw out and was ready for Mom to shake it. Shake shake shake, Mia said in her head while Mom held her paw and shook it. Mia gobbled up the few treats that Mom put down in front of her and then watched as Mom walked back to the other side of the bed. Just as Mom sat down on the bed, she looked toward the almost closed door. Mia looked toward the door and saw Dukee peeking in.
Mia hopped down off the bed and walked up to Dukee, “what are you doing?”
“I was just seeing what you two were doing,” Dukee peeked around Mia.
“We weren’t doing anything. I was just jumping around on the bed,” Mia whispered.
Dukee backed up because Mia forced her way through the doorway, “sorry, I was just curious,” he said.
Mia walked next to Dukee as he made his way over to the cardboard barn. Dukee sat down and looked at Mia as she stopped and wiped her face with her front paw.
“Did you just get done eating something?” Dukee asked.
“No, what makes you ask that?” Mia licked her paw.
“Why are you washing your face then?” Dukee asked.
“Oh, because I meant to do it before but forgot,” Mia stopped.
“I know that your mom gives you treats in there. She’s given me a few before when she sees me looking,” Dukee said.
“Oh, well, you don’t need them every time I get them. Besides, I know that Auntie gives you treats all the time,” Mia licked her shoulder fur.
“No, not all the time,” Dukee huffed and walked toward the sliding glass door.
“Well, I’m going back in by Mom,” Mia said.
Dukee sat down by the sliding glass door and looked out into that backyard, “she thinks that she knows everything,” Dukee grumbled.
He meowed loudly and waited for Auntie to let him out onto the back porch. Mia walked through her bedroom doorway and jumped up onto the bed. Mom put her empty laundry basket on the end of the bed and then picked up the full basket. Mia, of course, had to make sure that the empty basket was clean for Mom to use so she climbed inside of it. Mom put her laundry back down and picked up her cell phone. Of course, Mom has to take pictures of Mia when she does cute things, so Mia posed for her.
Auntie let Dukee out onto the back porch where he saw a couple of cardinals on the grass. He ran over to the screened door and looked out. The birds just hopped around and pecked at different spots on the grass.
“Carrie, is that you?” Dukee called out.
Hmm, I guess not, Dukee thought. He quietly hopped up onto the stool by the screen and watched the birds. He looked up into the trees and listened to the other birds chirping. It was a beautiful sunny day and everyone was enjoying it.
