“Hey, did you hear that noise the other night?” Mia asked.
“What noise?” Dukee asked.
“I think it was another kind of bird but I’m not sure… It sounded like it was saying hoo hoo,” Mia rubbed her ear.
“Oh yeah, I heard that. I kind of saw one of those too,” Dukee crept out of the cardboard cottage.
“Did you see it here?” Mia stood up.
“No, it was where I lived before… It was sitting up on top of a light post,” Dukee licked his front leg. “I was out on the screen porch one night, and it flew by and landed on top of the post. It made that same sound.”
“Wow, I bet that you have seen a lot of things,” Mia said.
“Well, I have been around longer than you,” Dukee turned to walk down the hall.
“That’s true,” Mia tapped Dukee’s tail and ran past him.
“Hey,” Dukee ran after her.
Mia ran into her bedroom and Dukee stopped. He turned around and took off down the hall into the front living room. He quickly turned again and ran back into the family room and up onto the sofa. Mia crept back out of her room, peeked around the corner, and saw Dukee.
“Rarrr,” she jumped out.
Dukee darted off the sofa, onto the red chaise lounge chair, and down to the floor. He ran through the kitchen and Mia followed.
Just then they heard a car door, and it was Mom and Auntie. Dukee jumped up onto the side table right by the front door, and Mia peeked out the window by the door. Mom and Auntie were laughing so they must have had a good time where ever they went.
“I hope she brought me something,” Dukee watched as they walked to the door.
“Yes, I have my maid trained to pick up a few things here and there for me,” Mia said.
“You are somethin else,” Dukee shook his head.
