Dukee and Mia sat there at the living room window for a while and the tortoise never came back. Mia walked over to her food dish and nibbled a little. Mom started to lower her reclining chair footrest and Mia hopped down off the table and ran over to her. Because Mom was getting up, Mia had to know where she was going.
Mom left the front living room and headed to her bathroom. Mia followed her of course. Dukee was sitting at the end of the side table but then hopped down onto the blanket. The blanket lays on top of Mia’s litter box cabinet by the window. He laid down and watched out the window, hoping that something would come along. Auntie was on the reclining sofa on her laptop.
It wasn’t long before a couple of squirrels ran into the front yard and chased each other around the tree. Dukee watched them as they played but then he got bored. He hopped down and walked down the hallway into the family room. He went into the cardboard barn and did some clawing on the scratch pads. Mia peaked her head around the corner of the wall and saw Dukee.
She quietly crept out alongside the red chaise while Dukee was clawing. Just then he looked up and saw her. He darted out of the barn at her and she took off running toward the front living room. He tried to get a grip with his feet and ran after her. Mia jumped up onto the arm of the sofa where Auntie was sitting and startled her. But then she jumped into Mom’s chair. Dukee had to stop because he remembered that Auntie was sitting there. He looked up at Mia standing with her front paws on the arm of her Mom’s chair.
Dukee turned around and ran fast back down the hall and into the family room. He jumped up onto the chaise. Mia jumped down from Mom’s chair, ran down the hallway, and stopped in the family room. She stared at Dukee until Mom came walking out of the bathroom. Mia trotted over to her as she walked through the family room to go to the front living room. Dukee jumped down and ran toward Mia. Mia stopped, turned, and glared at Dukee. He looked at her and knew that she was done playing.
“Grump,” He said.
Mia glanced back at him as she followed Mom back into the front living room.
“I’ll play by myself then,” He said.
Dukee swatted the little toy mouse across the floor and ran after it. He meowed and hit it again. He ran at it and hit it one more time, this time it slid under the sofa. Dukee walked to the sliding glass door and let out a loud meow. Auntie knew exactly what he wanted. She got up, walked into the family room, and over to the sliding door. She opened it up and Dukee trotted out onto the screened porch.
He looked around and then hopped up onto the stool that was out there for him. He just looked around the yard hoping to see something interesting. Even if it was just a lizard to watch, he would be happy.
Inside the house, Mia hopped up onto the other arm of Mom’s reclining chair and sat there by her. Mom had her laptop closed just in case Mia wanted to sit on her lap. She’s not much of a lap cat, only if the laptop is there. She’s content just knowing that Mom is near.
Dukee enjoyed being out on the porch because it was a very warm day. But he was starting to get a little sleepy. He might just want to take a nap but he’s not sure yet.
