Later that morning Mom and Auntie left to go somewhere. This means that the house is human-free. And what pet parents don’t know is, that when the humans are gone, the party is on.
Mia got all the energy she could muster up and run from her bedroom out to the front living room. She jumped and bounced off the recliner and onto the sofa, then down onto the floor. She then ran through the kitchen and into the family room, then back into her bedroom. She then turned and ran out of her bedroom again only to stop suddenly in the family room.
“What are you doing?” Dukee asked while he sat in her way.
“They left so I’m having some fun,” Mia said as she tried to catch her breath.
“Well, I want to have some fun too.” Dukee hopped in the air.
Well, you go first then.” Mia motioned him to run ahead.
Dukee ran down the hall toward the living room and Mia chased after him. He jumped up onto the side table by the front door. Hopped onto the sofa, then back down to the floor. He noticed that Mia was right on his tail so continued to run back down the hall and into the family room and around the chaise. Mia stopped as she entered the family room and laid down. Dukee noticed and walked over to her and sat down.
“That was fun, now what?” Dukee panted.
“Well, I’m tired now and a little hungry.” Mia breathed heavily.
“Lunch, that sounds like a good idea,” Dukee said.
They both sat there for a few minutes and then went their separate ways. Mia got up and casually walked into the front living room to her food dish, and Dukee went into his room. A few minutes passed and Dukee went out into the family room and over to the sliding porch door. A couple of squirrels were scampering around in the backyard, so Dukee sat and watched.
“Is there anything going on out there?” Mia walked over to him.
“Yes, these two squirrels have been running around,” Dukee said.
“I like watching squirrels, but I bet it would be more fun to chase them.” Mia sat down by the door.
“I did that once. Chased it right up a tree.” Dukee said.
“You did? Then what?” Mia’s ears perked up.
“Well, it went higher than me, and when I noticed that I was in a tree, I got scared.” He explained.
“What did you do?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“I told myself that, you got yourself up here, so now you are going to have to get down. So after a few minutes, I did. I carefully backed myself down the tree.”
“Well, I probably wouldn’t even bother chasing it up a tree, if I didn’t already catch it,” Mia said.
“You’d be surprised by what you would do when you are focused on catching something,” Dukee said.
“So you haven’t lived inside all of your life? Mia asked.
“I was outside briefly, and that’s when that happened. Otherwise, this guy that smelled like pizza picked me up, and that’s when I met Auntie. She has been taking care of me ever since.
