While Dukee and princess Mia sat and looked out the front living room window, they saw two turkeys walking down the street.
“Hey look, it’s those birds,” Mia said.
“Yep, there was only one the other day, remember?” Dukee said.
“Yeah, they don’t hang around very long, do they? Mia’s head turned and watched as they kept walking.
“Yeah, it’s like they are always on a mission or something… Where I used to live, they would come real close to the screen door, and If I stayed still, I could sniff the air and smell them” Dukee licked the top of his paw.
“Really? What do they smell like?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“They don’t have that strong of a smell, but I would say like you,” Dukee giggled.
“Like me? No, I smell beautiful,” Mia slowly licked the fur on her shoulder.
“I’m just kidding, I couldn’t smell them… But it was cool how they would come up close and see who we were.”
“Do you ever miss that other cat you lived with?” Mia climbed out of the tunnel.
“What made you ask that?” Dukee looked at her.
“Well, you said we,”
“Oh, I didn’t even realize that… Yes, I do sometimes… Why do you think I chase at you and try to get you to play? It was fun how we would run around,” Dukee gazed out the window.
“Well, you’re the only cat that I know, and I know that you’ve been here a long time already, but I still get scared when you dart at me,” Mia said.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I don’t mean to scare you,” Dukee looked at Mia.
Mom and Auntie pulled into the driveway and parked. Mia and Dukee got up to meet them at the door. Dukee walked to the end of the side table by the door, and Mia hopped down and trotted over to the side window.
“I bet Auntie bought me something,” Dukee said.
“You always think that she buys you stuff,” Mia watched as they walked to the door.
“Well, that’s because she does a lot of times,” Dukee said.
Mom and Auntie opened the door and walked in. They both had to make sure that Dukee wouldn’t sneak out as he does at times. Mom pet and said hi to Mia and Dukee hopped down to follow Auntie. Dukee always gets excited when she comes home. Sometimes he’s so crazy that he runs all around the house and up to the top of the refrigerator. But then he’s told to calm down so he doesn’t get hurt. Mia just follows wherever Mom might be going. She enjoys having mom come home but she doesn’t get all crazy.
