After Dukee woke up from his nap, he stood up, arched his back, and stretched. He hopped down off the leather stool and got a drink of water from his bowl. He walked out into the family room and went over to the glass sliding door. He let out a loud meow and then turned to scratch on the chair that was there. Auntie walked out of her room and over to Dukee to let him out onto the screened porch.
Dukee casually walked around and looked out into the backyard. He sat down and lifted his back foot to lick the bottom of it. While he was licking his foot he heard someone.
“Psst, over here.”
Dukee looked toward the right side of the screen porch by the house and saw an all-grey cat peeking in. Dukee carefully walked over to him but not too close.
“Hey, how are you doing? I’m Rafael, what’s your name?” He stood up against the screen.
“I’m Dukee.”
“You’ve lived here a while now haven’t you?” Rafael asked.
“Yes… What do you want?” Dukee quietly asked.
“Well, I’ve seen you before so I thought that it was about time that I introduce myself,” Rafael leaned up against the screen.
“Well, it’s nice to finally meet you,” Dukee walked a little closer.
“There’s another cat inside right?” Rafael asked.
“Yes, that’s Mia. She’s not allowed to come out here,” Dukee said.
“Yes, I’ve seen her through the windows… I’d like to talk to her sometime. Can you tell her that?” Rafael asked.
“Yes, I’ll tell her… So where do you live?” Dukee asked.
“I live around. I have a house but I mostly roam around,” Rafael pulled on his front foot toenail with his teeth.
“You must see a lot, being able to roam free?” Dukee asked.
“Oh yes, I could tell you all kinds of stories,” Rafael said.
“Well, Mia and I are at the front window a lot. You can tell us both stories up there,” Dukee said.
“Yes, I could but I have to be careful who sees me. I can visit you both some evenings up there,” Rafael looked at Dukee.
“Okay, that sounds good, and I’ll tell Mia,” Dukee said.
Rafael stood still but looked around the yard and up in the trees. As if he was looking for something.
“Well, Dukee, I must be going. We will talk again soon,” Rafael looked around and quickly ran to the fence.
“See ya,” Dukee watched as Rafael looked around again and then climbed up and over the fence.
“Wow, we have three new characters and friends for Auntie to write about. I have to tell Mia,” Dukee meowed by the glass door.
A few minutes went by and Auntie walked over to check on Dukee. She saw that he was by the door so she let him inside. Dukee trotted in and around the sofa. He looked around and then trotted down the hallway to the front living room. Mia just got done eating some of her food and turned around.
“Mia,” Dukee jumped up onto the side table.
“What?” She stopped and looked at him.
“I just met someone else and he told me to tell you that he wants to talk to you,” Dukee sat down on the end of the table.
“Oh? Who is it?” Mia hopped up into the tunnel part of the kitty tower.
“His name is Rafael. He’s that grey cat that we saw the other day,” Dukee said.
“You mean the one that was by the woods?” Mia asked.
“Yes, he lives in the area but he said that he roams around a lot. He also said that he has to be careful who sees him so he can visit us at this window only in the evenings” Dukee licked the top of his paw.
“He sounds interesting,” Mia gazed out the window. “So that means we have three new characters in our story, don’t we?”
“Yep, so the story should get more interesting,” Dukee looked out the window.
The two of them gazed out the window and wondered what kinds of adventures Auntie is going to write about with them and all these other characters involved.
