Dukee was lying on the blanket grooming his hair, and Mia jumped back up onto the kitty tower. Mom sat down in her recliner so Dukee and Mia couldn’t say too much out loud. Mia looked at Dukee and made a funny face at him. He shook his head and giggled. Dukee decided to go and get something to eat, so he got up from the blanket and hopped down to the floor.
He walked out of the living room and down the hallway to his bedroom. Auntie past him on her way to the front living room. Dukee walked into his room and nibbled on some of his food. Mia hopped down from the kitty tower, rubbed her head on Mom’s foot, and sat down by Mom’s chair. Auntie sat down on the leather sofa recliner then Mia walked past her. There was a blue plastic ring on the floor so Mia picked it up with her teeth and tossed it into the air.
The ring dropped to the floor and Mia hit it across the floor with her paw. She pounced on it and then laid down on it. About ten seconds later she rolled to the side and kicked the ring out from under her. It slid across the floor and into the hallway. Dukee walked out of his bedroom and into the family room just as Mia ran into the hall after the ring. Dukee sat down and licked the area around his mouth. Mia saw Dukee and hit the plastic ring to him.
Dukee looked at the ring that slid in front of him and lightly hit it back to Mia. She jumped up into the air and landed on the ring. She sat on it and then like a flash, she ran to her bedroom. Dukee just watched as she ran past him. What a silly girl, he thought. Dukee walked into his cardboard barn and scratched on the scratchboards. Mia trotted past him and went back into the front living room with her Lamb-chop toy in her mouth.
Dukee walked over to the wingback chair by the sliding glass door and started to scratch on it. Auntie yelled for Dukee to quit. How does she know that’s me, Dukee thought. Auntie got up and walked into the family room to let Dukee out onto the back porch. Mia jumped up on the arm of Mom’s chair and wanted to be petted. So Mom gave Mia some head and neck scratches that she likes. Mia was happy and hopped down.
Mia walked over to her new little tent that Mom had gotten her and crawled inside. She turned around and laid down. The plastic ball that was in there, Mia tapped it and it rolled out. Mia felt like she was ready for a nap, so she laid her head down on her paws. She looked up at Mom as she was busy on her laptop and then closed her eyes.
Dukee looked out into the backyard and watched a squirrel. It was digging in the grass for something. Just then another squirrel ran towards it and the two ended up chasing each other up the pine tree. When the squirrels left, Dukee laid down on the rug that was out there. He just enjoyed the fresh air and the warmth of the summer. He didn’t know if he was ready for a nap yet, so he just laid there and relaxed.
