The next morning Mia and Dukee slept in. Mom and Auntie were up and out the door. A half an hour had passed before Mia realized that Mom was gone. She hopped down off the bed, walked out around the bedroom door, and peeked into the bathroom. Maybe Mom is in the living room, Mia thought. She trotted through the family room, down the hall, and into the front living room. Mom was nowhere to be found, so she peeked out the window by the front door.
Mom’s car is gone, Mia thought. She meowed a couple of times and trotted into her bedroom. With Lamb-chop in her mouth, she trotted back out of her room and into the family room. Dukee had heard Mia’s meows so he got up. He realized that Auntie wasn’t there, and walked into the family room.
“What’s going on?” Dukee yawned.
“Mom and Auntie went out,” Mia said.
“Oh, I didn’t hear a thing,” Dukee yawned again.
“I know, it took me a few minutes too, to realize Mom was gone.”
Dukee arched his back and stretched it. He then lifted his back right leg and stretched it out, along with his front left leg, and stretched.
“I guess that’s what happens when we stay up so late,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Yeah I know,” Mia tapped her Lamb-chop.
Dukee sat there and tried to wake up, while Mia played with her Lamb-chop toy. She tapped it again, and then picked it up with her mouth. Mia walked past Dukee and carried her toy to the front living room. Dukee followed her and walked to the front door. He looked out the window by the door and saw a squirrel. He watched it for a minute until it ran up the tree.
Mia left her toy on the floor and ran over to her kitty tower. She hopped up and climbed into the tunnel part. Dukee jumped up onto the side table and walked to the end. He sat down and looked out the window.
“So, what are you going to do today?” Mia asked.
“I don’t know, probably the same thing you're going to do,” Dukee watched out the window.
“You mean eat, sleep, and play?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Yep, probably.”
The two of them just sat there and watched a squirrel as it dug in the grass.
