Rafael
Just before daylight, Mia was sitting on the window sill in her bedroom. She was just looking out the window and waiting for any critters or wildlife to come around. She lifted her front left paw and was cleaning the bottom of it when she heard something.
“Hello, my lovely.”
Mia looked down and saw Rafael looking at her, “Hi Rafael, how are you?”
“I’m wonderful! I finally caught this big rat that I’ve been hunting,” Rafael lifted his front paw and showed off his claws.
“A big rat? What did you do with it?” Mia hesitated to ask.
“Oh, I killed it and threw it in the trash. My human will be very grateful because it has been hanging around our house and upsetting the dog,” Rafael grinned at Mia.
“Oh, that’s good,” Mia giggled. “I thought that you were going to say that you ate it.”
“Oh, no, my humans feed me well enough that I don’t have to eat what I catch,” Rafael licked his paw.
“That’s good. My Mom feeds me good food too. Every once in a while she tries to feed me something weird but I let her know that I don’t care for it,” Mia said.
“So, what has my lovely Mia been doing lately?” Rafael put his front paws on the house and moved closer to the window.
“Just my usual playing with my toys and Mom. And also take naps. Oh, and Mom was gone for three days last week so Auntie played with me some,” Mia readjusted her back feet.
“What about orange boy? Didn’t you play with him?” Rafael asked.
“Oh, you mean Dukee? No, he tried to play with me but I didn’t want to,” Mia said.
“I bet that you missed your mom, huh?” Rafael licked the fur on his shoulder.
“Yes, I did. I’m getting used to Auntie being here. And I finally allowed her to rub my neck briefly, but she’s not my Mom,” Mia glanced back at Mom sleeping in her bed.
“I can understand that. Two humans live with me but I favor one more than the other,” Rafael looked at Mia.
“The last time that you visited you said that you were going to look for a bobcat. Did you find it?” Mia asked.
“No, I browsed around up there and didn’t see anything except a snake slithering into a ditch,” Rafael scratched his ear.
“Oh, sorry. Dukee and I saw a snake the other day. It was in the front yard and slithered into the ditch,” Mia said.
“Yes, there are a lot of snakes around. I think that it’s because of all the water around here,” Rafael said.
Just then, Mom moved around on the bed and tossed off her blanket. Mia held up her paw by the window and hoped that Rafael wouldn’t say anything. Mom stopped moving then and went back to sleep.
“Is everything alright?” Rafael whispered.
“Yes, I just wasn’t sure if Mom was getting up. I usually wake her up around now for my breakfast,” Mia looked at Rafael.
“Oh, okay. Well, I will let you do that then. I must be going anyway,” Rafael said.
“You don’t have to go she's not moving now,” Mia said.
“Yes, I do. My humans start to get up around now, and I like to make sure that they see me before they leave for the day. Don't worry, we'll talk again soon my lovely,” Rafael dropped down onto all four of his feet.
“Oh, okay. Talk to you soon,” Mia watched as Rafael took off quickly and jumped the fence. “He is such an interesting cat.”
Mia hopped down from the window sill and jumped up onto the bed by Mom. She walked on the bed along Mom’s back up to the back of her head. Mia reached over and lightly touched Mom’s cheek. Time to get up Mom, Mia thought. Mom turned her head and saw Mia’s furry face looking at her. Mom asked her what she wanted even though she already knew. Mia stared at her until she knew that Mom was going to get up. When Mom sat up, Mia jumped straight up with joy, ran, and jumped off the bed. Yay, breakfast, Mia thought.
