Mia licked both her paws and wiped her face while she lay there waiting for the lizard to come back. But as she gazed out the window, a large beautiful brown hawk flew down from the sky and landed on the grass. Mia crept low and got closer to the window and stared at the bird as it pecked at something in the grass.
That better not be my lizard, Mia thought.
She laid there very still, and quietly made chirping noises. As if the bird was going to say something in return. It wasn’t long before the hawk flew away and Mia’s head followed the direction it went. When it disappeared, she got up and moved to the cube part of her kitty tower, and laid down.
Dukee was in his room sleeping on the bed until he heard a noise. His ears perked up and he looked toward the window. He hopped down off the bed and jumped up onto the stool by the window. He saw a familiar but funny-looking four-legged animal wearing what looked like silver armor. It had a long armored tailed, two fairly large ears, and a long nose.
I remember you, you were where I used to live. Dukee thought.
The armadillo dug in the ground by the fence line. Dukee watched it as it crept along the fence digging, probably for bugs to eat, or a way out of the yard. When it went out of Dukee’s sight he hopped down and strolled out into the family room. He picked up a toy and meowed loud enough for Mia, Auntie, and Mom to hear.
Mia looked in the direction of Dukee but continued to lay in her cube. Dukee dropped his toy in the hall and walked into the front living room. He jumped up onto the side table, walked to the end, and sat down. He gazed out the window because he didn’t notice Mia right away.
Just then, Dukee hopped down onto the blanket by the window. He saw a squirrel scurry down the tree to the grass. Mia peeked her head out of the cube to see what Dukee was looking at. Dukee turned his head and noticed Mia was there also watching the squirrel. He then turned his focus back to the window and the squirrel.
