Dukee was in his bedroom with Auntie while Mia was in the front living with her Mom. Mom was sitting in her recliner working on her laptop and Mia was playing with her favorite toy. Mia softly meowed and made cute squeak sounds while she played with her Lamb-chop. She tossed Lamb-chop into the air and pounced at where it landed.
“You are my best friend,” Mia whispered to Lamb-chop.
Mia picked her toy up in her mouth and carried it to the front door. At the narrow window by the door, Mia showed Lamb-chop what it looked like outside. Mia saw a lizard on the screen inside the porch. She put Lamb-chop down on the floor and watched as the lizard slowly climbed higher. While she watched the lizard, a squirrel crept into view and started to dig in the grass. Mia watched as the squirrel dug something up from the grass and started to eat it.
All of a sudden, the squirrel quickly ran up the tree. Mia watched as the neighbor's German Shepard ran into our front yard barking at the squirrel. Yeah, I would run too if that big dog ran at me, Mia thought. The neighbor called the dog back and he obeyed. Mia picked up Lamb-chop with her mouth and carried it over to her Mom. She put her toy down by Mom’s chair and looked up at her. Mom looked at Mia and thanked her for the gift of Lam-chop. I only want you to keep an eye on her Mom, Mia thought as she jumped up onto the table where her food and water are.
Dukee was in his bedroom lying on the leather stool by the window. He was trying to take a nap when he heard and saw the neighbor's big dog bark and gallop alongside their house. I’m trying to take a siesta here, Dukee thought as he watched it enter the backyard. Dukee put his head back down on the stool and watched the dog as it ran around in the yard. When the German Shepard was called into the house by his human, Dukee closed his eyes.
After Mia was done eating some of her food, she jumped up onto her kitty tower and crawled into the tunnel. She looked out the window and watched the squirrel carefully creep down the tree. The squirrel looked at the neighbor's yard and then stepped down onto the grass. It dug around in the grass but made sure that the dog wasn’t coming back. Mia observed how fast the squirrel would dig in the grass, and then watched as nibbled on whatever it found.
A Monarch butterfly all of a sudden fluttered into view. Mia watched as it fluttered up and down, then up and down again. The butterfly flew down and landed on the red Penta flowers in the flower bed. Mia watched as the butterfly then quickly flew up and landed on the next flower. I wonder why it does that, Mia thought. Mia doesn’t know that when a butterfly or a bee lands on a flower, it drinks the nectar that the flower produces. And when the bee or butterfly flies from flower to flower, some of the pollen stays with them. This is how the life cycle of the flower continues.
