After the deer left, Dukee jumped up onto the side table. He stopped when he thought he heard someone and looked toward the hall. Just then, Princess Mia walked around the corner of the reclining sofa.
“What’s the matter can’t you sleep?” Mia looked up at Dukee.
“No, I was just up is all so I came out here,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Yeah, I can understand that,” Mia said.
“Guess what, I saw the deer this time,” Dukee said.
“Where, out here?” Mia peeked up over her litter box cabinet.
“Yep, they walked down the street and went next door,” Dukee laid down on the table.
Mia laid down on the rug in front of the cabinet and rolled and twisted around, and Dukee watched her.
“What are you doing?” Dukee looked down at her.
“I got this really bad itch… on my back and… I’m trying… to… scratch it,” she wiggled and wiggled.
“Do you need help?” Dukee asked.
“Nope, I think I got it,” Mia rolled to her side.
“We sure had a lot of rain, didn’t we? It came down really hard,” Dukee looked down at Mia.
“Yeah it did, and it hit my bedroom window really hard too,” Mia looked up.
“I don’t like those loud noises that happen sometimes when it rains,” Dukee wiped his ear with his paw.
“Yeah I know, it’s scary. But Mom tells me that everything is ok,” Mia said.
“Auntie says that too, that everything is ok. I don’t know if that makes me feel better or not since the noise still happens,” Dukee said.
“I know what you mean, but they try and help,” Mia rolled over again.
“Oh, I think I hear Auntie in the bathroom, I’ll see ya later,” Dukee got up and hopped down off the side table.
Mia’s itch finally went away, so she got up to eat some of her food.
