It was now 6:05 in the morning and Princess Mia jumped onto her bed. She stared at the sheet covering Mom and there was no movement. Mia hopped up and down a few times and still no movement. Okay, this will wake her, Mia thought. She hopped onto Mom’s side and tapped her face with her paw. Mom moved now, so Mia thought, it’s about time, I am late for my breakfast. She hopped down off the bed and waited for Mom by the bedroom door.
Mia gracefully trotted out into the living room with Mom shuffling at a slow pace behind her. I am so hungry that I could re-eat one of my hairballs, Mia thought. Mom scooped the special food into Mia’s bowl and walked away. Mia shoved her head into her bowl but yet gently licked the gravy off the tuna.
When Mia was done with her breakfast, she decided to climb onto her kitty tower by the window and watch the morning birds hopping from limb to limb. She thought that she was alone until she felt a slight touch on her tail.
“Hey, leave my tail alone.” Mia looked and scolded Dukee.
“Relax, I only sniffed it.” Dukee hopped up onto the table next to the kitty tower.
“And stay out my food,” Mia ordered.
“Don’t worry I’m not going to eat your stinky food. Why are you so grumpy?” Dukee walked across the window sill over to the blanket on top of Mia’s litter box cabinet.
Mia didn’t say anything right away until Dukee continued to stare at her.
“I’m not grumpy, just a little perturbed, if you must know.” She gave her paw one long lick.
“Why, was your breakfast late?” Dukee snickered.
“As a matter of fact, it was.” Mia stared out the window.
“Just be happy that you get to eat at all,” Dukee said.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Mia looked at him.
“Well, some of those cats that you see outside, you don’t know if they are being fed. They may not even know when they will get to eat next.” Dukee scratched his ear.
“I didn’t think of it that way.” Mia dropped her head for a moment.
There was a long pause while Mia adjusted her body and moved to a different laying position on the kitty tower.
“Well, I’m not one of those cats. I live in a beautiful home with a wonderful maid who takes care of me.”
Dukee looked at her and couldn’t believe what he just heard.
“Exactly!” He said as he jumped down and walked away.
“Wait, what did I say"?” Mia watched him walk away.
