Chapter 121

When Mom and Auntie went to bed, Mia chased Dukee from the family room, into the front living room. Dukee jumped onto the leather sofa while Mia stopped at the end of it. Dukee looked down over the arm of the sofa at Mia as she looked up at him.

“I knew that you couldn’t catch me,” Dukee said.

“I could if I really wanted to,” Mia said.

Dukee then wiggled his butt, jumped over Mia, and ran down the hallway. He stopped by the cardboard barn in the family room and looked back. Mia took her time and trotted down the hallway and into the family room. She looked toward Auntie’s and Dukee’s room when she saw Auntie walk out and check on them. Dukee was sitting by the barn behaving himself while Mia walked over to the scratch post and sat down. Auntie went back into her bedroom and shut the light off, so Mia walked over by Dukee.

“She really keeps an eye on you doesn’t she?” Mia looked at Dukee.

“Yes, well, she says it’s because you are a girl, so I have to play nice with you,” Dukee licked his front right paw.

“I can take care of myself,” Mia sat up straight.

“I know you can, but our humans worry since you are smaller than me,” Dukee walked out in front of the barn and lay down on the floor.

“Oh, I can understand that then. But I can be tough when I want to be,” Mia kicked her back right leg out.

Dukee giggled at Mia while she walked toward him, turned, and then kicked her Left back leg out at him. Missing him intentionally, she giggled and turned back around.

“You look silly,” Dukee said.

“I feel silly, but I know that I could still injure you if I really wanted to,” Mia walked over to the rug in front of the sofa.

“Yeah, I know that you can. You scratched me that one day when you hit me in the head,” Dukee rubbed above his eye with his front left paw.

“Oh yeah, well, you caught me on an off day,” Mia itched her neck.

Dukee lay there and licked the fur on his side. Mia heard her Mom cough and decided to go in by her.

“I’ll see you later,” Mia walked toward her bedroom.

“Okay, good night,” Dukee continued to clean his fur.

Mia walked into her bedroom and jumped up onto the bed. She rubbed her head and neck on Mom’s foot. Mom told Mia, thank you for the love, and said good night to her. Mia then hopped down off the bed and onto the rug. She laid down by Mom’s slipper and licked the fur on her arm. Dukee got up and walked into his bedroom. He saw Auntie was watching television so he nibbled on some of his food. After a few mouthfuls, Dukee jumped up onto the bed, walked to the head of the bed near Auntie, and laid down. Auntie petted Dukee a few times and then said good night to him. Good night Auntie, he thought.
