After a while Dukee hopped down onto the top of the refrigerator, down onto the counter and then the floor. What he didn’t know was that Mia scurried over by the corner of the wall just outside of the kitchen. Just as Dukee walked through the kitchen doorway Mia pounced at him. He hopped about a foot straight up, and tried hard to get traction on the floor to run away.
Mia giggled and chased Dukee through the family room, around the chaise lounge chair and back into the kitchen. Dukee ran into the dining area this time but that was a mistake because now Mia had him trapped.
“I’m going to get you,” Mia slowly walked toward him.
“No your not,” Dukee crept toward the living room.
She noticed the direction he planned on running so she quickly scurried around the table. Dukee stopped and thought, how am I going to get around her? Just then as Mia crept closer, Dukee darted back the other way toward the kitchen. He ran so fast that he jumped up onto the chaise chair and leaped over to the sofa.
“I fooled you,” heavily breathing, Dukee stopped.
“Yes I guess you did,” Mia Jumped up onto another chair.
“I like playing with you,” on the sofa Dukee plopped down.
“Yeah, you can be pretty fun too,” Mia licked down the fur on her arm.
“This other cat that I used to play with was fun sometimes, but he would get mean sometimes too,” Dukee said.
“Do you mean where you were before?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Yes, before we moved here… He was just a baby at first, so I was supposed to play gently with him. But as he grew, his attitude grew with him,” Dukee stretched out a back leg and licked his foot.
“Why didn’t he move here with you? Not that I want another one of you here,” Mia said.
“I’m not real sure, he stayed with the man that we lived with… I’m actually glad that it’s just Auntie and me,” Dukee gazed towards the front living room.
“Do you think that you will ever see him again?” Mia asked.
“I don’t know… why should I?” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Oh, I was just asking,” Mia licked the top of her paw.
