“Oh, I think I hear Auntie,” Dukee hopped down off the side table.
While Mia watched Dukee leave the living room, she noticed a plastic ring from a bottle on the floor. She hopped down from the kitty tower and pounced on the ring. Mia backed off of it, swatted it across the floor, and chased after it. She then ran through her paper cave and swatted the ring again.
Mia was so involved in her playing that she didn’t hear Mom walk into the living room. Mia jumped about an inch because she was startled, but she still ran up to Mom and rubbed on her leg. Mom sat down in her chair so Mia went back to playing.
Auntie gave Dukee his breakfast, dehydrated chicken which he loves, and she did her usual morning routine on the laptop. When Dukee got done eating he walked out into the family room. Auntie knew that Dukee probably wanted to go out onto the screen porch for a while, so she got up to let him out.
Mom grabbed a plastic bag full of stuff that she had to go through. Of course, Mia had to know what she was doing and she stuck her head inside. Mom told her that she had to wait, but princess Mia insisted. I’m going to get in that bag, Mia thought. Because Mia was being insistent, Mom quickly pulled out most of the stuff from the bag. That was good enough and Mia jumped in it.
While Dukee was outside, he saw his favorite squirrel digging around on the ground. He carefully crept up to the screen and quietly watched until something made the squirrel run up a tree. Just then a fairly large bird landed higher up in another tree, and let out a screech. It was a pretty brown bird with some white on its chest. I believe it to be a hawk.
“I see you bird,” Dukee looked up. “You scared my friend away.”
He watched the bird for about a minute or two, and then it flew away. Auntie did her usual check on Dukee to see if he wanted to come back inside the house. She opened the door, he thought for a second, and walked in. I might as well, my friend was chased away, he thought.
Auntie went back to her room so Dukee followed her in and hopped onto the stool by the window.
Back in the front living room, Mia was finished with the bag and decided to lay down inside her cardboard camper. It seemed to be nap time already for Princess Mia.
