It was almost six o’clock in the morning when Mia heard Dukee meowing. She walked out of her bedroom and into the family room to look around. She didn’t see him so she walked down the hallway and into the front living room. Dukee was on top of the kitty tower looking out the window.
“What were you meowing for?” Mia looked up at Dukee.
“Oh, did I wake you?” Dukee looked down.
“No, I was awake but you almost woke up my mom,” Mia jumped up onto the table by the kitty tower.
“Oh, sorry. I just felt like meowing is all,” Dukee looked back out the window.
“Don’t you realize that you might wake Auntie up as well?” Mia walked over to the window sill.
“I didn’t even think about it this time, but your right, it is a bit early to be meowing for no reason,” Dukee looked down at Mia.
Mia looked out the front window, and in the big tree, she saw a few small birds hopping around. Dukee also watched as the birds jumped from branch to branch.
“That sure was a long day yesterday without Mom and Auntie, wasn’t it?” Mia looked up at Dukee.
“Yes, it was. Auntie hasn’t been gone that long in quite a while,” Dukee sat up and rubbed his face with his paw.
“I heard Mom say something about a baby bash, whatever that is,” Mia looked back out the window.
“Yes, I’m not sure what that is either. I do remember Auntie telling me that she was going to be gone all day, but it was almost the next morning when they got home,” Dukee said.
“I know, but I’m just happy that they came home safe and sound,” Mia scratched her neck.
“Yes, that’s true,” Dukee jumped down onto the blanket which is on top of the litter box cabinet.
Mia looked at Dukee as he hopped down to the floor, “where are you going?”
“To see if Auntie is awake or not. I missed her yesterday,” Dukee walked past the leather sofa and out of the room.
Mia looked out the window and saw a squirrel run into the front yard. She watched it as it dug in the ground and then ate what it found. Hmm, I already had breakfast but I’m still hungry, Mia thought. She turned around and walked onto the table by her food dish.
In Auntie and Dukee’s bedroom, auntie was still sleeping. Dukee jumped up onto the bed, paused for a moment, and looked at Auntie. He then laid down near her head on the other side of the bed. Dukee put his head down and listened to auntie’s breathing while she slept “I love you, Auntie,” he whispered.
After Mia finished eating some of her dry food, she drank some water. Mia knew that her mom wasn’t going to get up yet so she hopped down off the table and trotted out of the room. Mia glanced toward Dukee’s room as she passed it and heard nothing. I guess Auntie is still sleeping too, she thought. Mia trotted through the family room and into her bedroom. She glanced up at Mom’s bed and heard her sleeping. Mia walked over to the rug alongside the bed and plopped down. “I love you Mom,” Mia whispered.
