About 30 minutes went by so Auntie checked on Dukee who was still on the back porch. Dukee got down off the chair when he saw Auntie and walked up to the door so she let him in. He stepped in and meowed as if to say thank you to Auntie.
She grabbed a long string that Dukee likes to play with and swished it back and forth on the floor. Dukee of course couldn’t resist and wiggled his behind and jumped at it. He grabbed at it with his front paw and plopped down on his side and rolled over with it.
The colorful string was now partially wrapped around his belly. Auntie sat down in the chair nearby with the one end of the string still in her hand. Mia slowly crept from the front living room, down the hall, and stopped to watch Dukee. He didn’t notice her right away but when he did, he got up quickly and darted towards her.
Mia was startled by how fast he did that and hissed at him. Dukee stopped, looked at her, looked back at Auntie, and then back to Mia. Just then Mom had said something to Auntie so she left the room and went into the front living room.
“What did you do that for?” Dukee asked Mia.
“You startled me, I wasn’t expecting you to do that.” Mia licked her front paw.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I was only playing with you.” Dukee looked at her.
“It’s okay, just don’t do it again unless I say that it’s alright.” Mia walked toward the sliding porch door.
Dukee followed her to the door and she sat and looked out.
“Why don’t you go outside?” Dukee asked.
“Well, I don’t want to get my beautiful fur all dirty.” Mia licked her shoulder.
“I don’t think that it’s dirty out there.” Dukee looked at his paws.
“Of course, it’s dirty out there, it’s outside right?” Mia said.
“Well it is but it’s still covered.” Dukee looked up.
“That doesn’t matter, the wind blows and dirt can still blow in.” Mia continued to groom herself.
Well, I think it’s because you aren’t allowed to go out there.” Dukee said.
“I can go out there if I want to but I choose not to.” Mia turned to walk away.
