During the night, Auntie wasn’t sleeping well which made Dukee a little uneasy. He stepped on her chest and sniffed her face, which made Auntie wake up. She looked at Dukee, patted him on the head, and rolled over. Dukee sat there for a minute and watched her as she breathed. He felt more satisfied with how she was sleeping so he hopped off the bed to get something to eat.
When he was done eating, he walked out into the family room and looked around. He went inside the cardboard barn and did some clawing. Then he left the barn and walked through the kitchen with his one long toenail clicking on the floor. The house was quiet except for that sound. He made his way to the front living room and peeked out the window alongside the front door.
It was pretty dark outside and there wasn’t much to see. Dukee casually walked across the bottom shelf of the side table, towards the front of the sofa. He stepped down and walked over and hopped up to where Mia’s food dish was. He sniffed it to make sure that it wasn’t something that he might like and turned around. He stepped on the window sill, peeked out the window, and walked onto the blanket. He sat there and looked out the window hoping to see something.
And wouldn’t you believe it… two deer walked up the street. They just casually walked and looked around. Dukee watched how one did a little playful hop next to the other. The quietness of the street created a serene atmosphere, where they seemed to enjoy their journey this time. Not having to run out of the way of cars that might approach them.
Dukee watched as they made their way down the street to the other side of the neighbor’s property. That is where they usually enter and walk to the backyard to eat the fruit from the tree. They also go down into the canal that way for some water. Even where Dukee lived before, he got to see some beautiful deer when they came to visit.
Our planet is full of many different creatures that we can see and appreciate. But we need to protect them from carelessness and harm. If you see an animal struggling, get help for them. Take action and reach out to someone who can help the animal if you aren’t able to.
