The next day after Mom and Auntie got back from grocery shopping, Dukee was wondering where Auntie was. She didn’t come into the house yet. Dukee hopped up onto the side table by the front door and watched as Mom walked in a few times. I know I saw Auntie, but where did she go, Dukee thought. He hopped down and ran into the kitchen. He sat by the door that leads to the laundry room and the garage where Auntie comes in a lot. Where is she, he thought.
Mom told him as she passed him that his mamma was watching for a baby armadillo. Dukee looked up at her but waited by the door. About ten minutes passed and still no Auntie. I want my lunch, he thought. Mia walked over to Dukee and asked where Auntie was.
“I don’t know where she is… I know that I saw her,” Dukee said.
“Well, I’m sure that she will be in soon,” Mia walked into the front living room.
Mia hopped up onto the table where her food is and walked over to the window. Mom had gone back out the front door so Mia was watching her. Just then Mia saw Auntie with something in her hands.
“Hey your Auntie is up here holding something,” Mia called out.
Dukee trotted out of the kitchen and up by the front door. He looked out the narrow window by the door, “What does she have?”
“I don’t know, but look, she just put it down on the grass,” Mia said.
“I know what that is… I’ve seen those before where I used to live,” Dukee watched as the little armadillo carefully trotted toward the neighbor's yard.
“It’s so cute,“ Mia watched it.
“So that’s what she was doing,” Dukee saw Auntie go back toward the garage.
He heard the garage door and knew that she was probably going to come in now. He trotted into the kitchen just as Auntie walked in the door with some bags. Yay, I get my lunch now, he thought.
Mia ran up to Mom as she walked back into the house. Mom gave her some love and showed her the new scratch thing she got her. Auntie walked into her bedroom carrying the bags and Dukee followed her. Lunchtime, lunchtime, he thought as he jumped up onto the bed. Auntie opened up a can of one of his favorites and put some in his other dish. Dukee couldn’t wait and started to gobble it.
Mia rubbed on her new scratch thing and played with the feather that was hanging on it. Mom got it for her to hopefully scratch on. She already has scratch posts all over the house but Mia seems to like furniture better. Dukee uses the scratch posts but does pick on the one chair still. Kitties, you got to love them no matter what.
When Dukee was done with his lunch, he walked into the front living room. He sniffed the new scratch thing and didn’t even see Mia under the arch of it. She hissed at him and then giggled. Dukee backed up and just looked at her. Mom was watching what they were doing so neither one said anything. Dukee turned and started to walk away when Mia swatted at his tail. He hurried down the hall and looked back at her.
Auntie asked Dukee if he wanted to go outside and of course, he was all for that. He trotted over to the sliding glass door where Auntie let him out. Mia sniffed her new scratch thing out some more after Auntie sprinkled some catnip on it.
Please join me again for more of: Two Cats And A House.
We have two tall cat towers. One at either end of the living room wall unit. The towers go almost to the top of the wall unit. Marie, our little gray tiger stripe, insists on getting on the top tier of the tower and laying on her back and stretching backwards over the side. She reaches her arms waaay over her head. We keep telling her to be careful. We are so afraid she is going to slip over the side and fall on her head. The other two don't ever do this. Sophie never gets up in these towers. She has one in my sewing room that is shoulder high on me but she just sleeps there when Callie leaves her alone. Callie goes up in one of the living room towers on the fourth tier where I put her treats. She rarely goes all the way up. Marie runs up to the top and then runs across the wall unit and races down the other tower. When she runs through the house she doesn't pay attention to where she is running and bounces off the furniture or walls and keeps on going in whatever direction she lands. She is so goofy. Sophie has one of my dinner napkins that she snatched from me when I wasn't paying attention. She lays on it and rolls around on it. Sometimes she gathers it all up and tucks it under her belly and sleeps on it. I just let her have it. Makes the house look messy but I don't care. She's happy and that's the important thing. Kitties and Paula are the important ones in my life right now.
