Dukee hopped down from the red chaise lounge chair and trotted into his bedroom. He heard a sound outside so he jumped up onto the stool by the window. He thought that it might be just the neighbor next door, but it wasn’t.
To his surprise, he saw two deer nibbling on the apricot tree in the neighbor’s yard, so he quietly watched. They weren’t there very long before they trotted down into the ravine by the water. We don’t see the deer very often with all the house construction in the area, so it’s nice when we do.
Watching the deer eat made Dukee’s tummy growl, so he hopped down and nibbled some of his food. When he was done, he walked out into the family room and Mia happen to be sitting there by the scratch post.
“Guess what I just saw,” Dukee said.
“What?” Mia licked her paw.
“Deer,” Dukee walked over to her.
“Yes, what did you see?” Mia asked.
“No silly, I saw deer,” Dukee giggled.
“Ooh, that deer… I thought…
“Yes your highness, you thought I called you dear,” Dukee snickered.
“Well, you could have… Anyways, that’s cool, where did you see them?” Mia asked.
“Out my window, they were eating in the neighbor’s yard,” Dukee sat down.
“Yeah, we used to see them a lot more, but not lately,” Mia licked her paw and wiped the back of her ear.
“I would see them a lot too where I used to live… a lot more of them too,” Dukee stretched out his arm and licked the side of it.
“We had a really big back yard with woods behind… so I would see deer and turkey, and other things too,” Dukee said.
“Well, as you probably already know, this is the only place I remember,” Mia said.
“Yeah, well that’s because you're young… You will have a lot of stuff to remember when you get older,” Dukee turned and walked into the cardboard barn.
Dukee clawed on the cardboard pads inside of the barn which makes some noise.
“I guess your right,” Mia walked over to the chair by the barn.
“Did you say something?” He stopped.
“I just said that, I guess your right,” Mia said.
“Right about what?” Dukee peeked out of the barn.
“Oh, never mind,” Mia shook her head.
