The next morning, the sun wasn’t even up yet and Mia was trying to wake up Mom. She pawed Mom's shoulder and Mom didn’t budge. So then Mia reached up and softly tapped Mom’s cheek. Mom opened her eyes and slowly turned her head. Mia had her head right there staring at her as their eyes met. Mom asked her what she wanted even though she knew already. Because Mom moved the blanket off of her, Mia jumped a couple of times on the bed. She knew that Mom was going to get up.
Down to the floor Mia jumped and rushed out the crack of the doorway. Yay, breakfast time, Mia thought. Mom put her slippers on and carefully shuffled to the door. As she opened the door wider to walk out Mia was right there waiting for her. The two of them went to the kitchen and Mom pulled out the package of Mia’s breakfast from the refrigerator. She took the stainless steel bowl that Mia gets her breakfast in from the dining room table and scooped some wet food into it. Mia could smell it, and she was excited.
Mom put the extra back into the refrigerator and carried the bowl to their bedroom. Mia couldn’t wait and rushed back into the bedroom. When Mom put the bowel down on the floor Mia had her face in it right away.
“Nom nom nom,” Mia gobbled. This is so good, she thought.
Mom climbed back into bed and when Mia was done eating, she hopped up onto the bedroom window sill and licked all around her mouth. She had to make sure that she got every splatter that might have gotten onto her face. While she was sitting there she figured she’d clean her ears too. So she licked her paw and then wiped the back of her ear. She did that about four times with each ear. Then she continued to lick her left arm and shoulder. And then the other arm and shoulder. Mia was very good at keeping herself clean.
It had finally started to lighten up outside and the birds were starting to sing. Mia watched as some of the cardinals were hopping from branch to branch in the tree in the backyard. A cardinal is a popular reddish-colored bird. The female even has some brown on it. click here to see one
Mia enjoyed watching the birds, she even chirped back at them sometimes. At least that’s what it sounds like. After she got done bathing herself she hopped down and walked out the doorway. She trotted to the front living room and jumped up onto the table where her other food and water were. She wanted a drink after that tasty tuna chicken breakfast. While she was drinking her water she heard some birds chirping in the front yard.
When she was done, she turned and walked over to the window. There were two squirrels outside too. One was chasing the other around the tree. She sat there and watched the squirrels and listened to the birds. She had the feeling come over her, that it was going to be a great day.

Callie lays up against my back and shoulders all night. When she wants me to get up she jumps over and lays between the backs of my legs. When my legs are getting numb I wake up and look at the clock. It's usually 8:30-9:30 am when she does this. She follows me to the bathroom and into Paula's room. If I don't go to the kitchen next she starts crying at me. Marie will be sitting in the doorway to Paula's room just a crying away. They both follow me to the kitchen and wait while I get the little can of food open. If I put the whole can down in one bowl Callie would slurp the whole thing down. I put it in two little bowls. I put Marie's on the floor in the kitchen then make Callie follow me to the lsundry room. I put her bowl down then I race to the kitchen in time to see Marie racing to the living room. She darts under the sofa or jumps in the window. If she's under the sofa I sit which makes her get into the window. If I don't grab her bowl up and take to her in the living room I find Callie scarfing down her food too. Marie only licks the gravy off. I have to wave her bowl under her nose 5 or 6 times before she decides to lick the gravy. When she's done I take the bare meat out to the den or my sewing room for Sophie. Sometimes she waits under Paula's pool table or behind my sewing cabinet. If she's under the pool table I have to stand there and keep Callie away or she eats it. When Sophie is done I put it on the floor in my sewing room. Callie races out behind me to eat more of it. None of them will eat pate. They only want the grilled or gravy lover's stuff. They all have dry food available 24/7 so the wet is basically a treat. I give Callie and Marie Temptations treats up in their cat tower. Sophie so far just stares at them. One day she might start eating them. We do the food routine twice a day. When it gets to be about 5:30-6:00 pm Callie will start following me around or if I am sitting she gets in my lap and stays until I get up to fix our dinner. We have to wait until the 3 girls are taken care of. It is a real zoo here. Paula says I am their slave. They have me conditioned to cater to their whims.
