Dukee heard Auntie moving around in their bedroom, so he meowed very loudly. He waited by the sliding glass door and meowed again. Auntie walked out of their room and asked him if he wanted to go out on the porch. He reached up on the wall with his arms by the door and stretched as she walked over to him. She opened the door and let him outside on the porch. He walked over to the screen door that goes into the yard and looked around it.
Sometimes a lizard sneaks inside and he likes to chase and capture them. But no lizard this time so he just slowly walked around the porch. As he was looking around, something caught his eye and he ran to the other side of the porch. He carefully sat up on his hind legs and put his front paws up at the base of the screen. Slowly he peaked out into the yard. It was a bright red cardinal standing on the grass. Just then, it flew up to the roof and then hopped down onto the wind chime that was hanging there.
Dukee watched it as it looked and watched him. The cardinal cocked its head and looked at Dukee for about a minute and then flew off into the trees. There is a story, that cardinals represent the passing of loved ones. Who knows, this could have been one of our loved ones checking up on Dukee and saying hi. With no more activity going on Dukee hopped up into the chair with the cushion and laid down.
Mom walked out of her bedroom and went into the front living room. Mia followed right behind her until she realized that she forgot something. Mia trotted back into her bedroom and picked up her lamb-chop toy in her mouth. She walked back through the crack of the doorway, trotted through the family room, and in by Mom. Mom was checking Mia’s food and water dish as Mia dropped her lamb-chop right by Mom’s chair.
Mom acknowledge that Mia brought her baby (Lamb-chop) to her and pet her on the head. Mia was ready to play though and grabbed onto Mom’s arm as she pets her head. Mom let out a squeal and told her no claws. Mia is sort of a rough player for a girl so she is often reminded not to play with her claws or teeth. But that doesn’t always work. Mia jumped up at Mom’s arm as she held it up and walked toward her chair.
Mia has built-in springs in her legs and can jump really high if she wants to. Mia jumped again, so Mom held her arm out straight as she stood there. Mia jumped two more times to reach and grab onto Mom’s arm. When she was out of breath, she laid down to take a rest and Mom sat down in her chair.
Mia only laid there for a minute when she heard some birds in the front yard. She jumped up onto her kitty tower and climbed up into the tunnel part. There were a couple of really small birds hopping branch to branch and chirping in the tree. She laid there in her tunnel and just watched the birds.
Auntie went to check on Dukee and he was sleeping nicely in the chair on the back porch. So she went into the front living room by Mom and Mia and sat down. Mia glanced at Auntie for a second, but then turned back to watch the birds. It’s always nice to know that you have family around, even when the birds seem more important at the time.
