“Did you see that?” Mia said while watching Auntie in the kitchen.
“What?” Dukee looked toward the kitchen.
“I think I just saw Auntie put a featherless bird in the oven,” Mia said.
“Oh, that’s probably a turkey that she is making for Thanksgiving,” Dukee turned around and looked back out the window.
“Do you mean that she caught one of those that we saw walking down the road last week?” Mia looked out the window.
“No, I don’t think so. I think she took it out of the refrigerator,” Dukee said.
“Oh… I don’t know if I’ve eaten turkey before,” Mia licked the bottom of her front paw.
“I have, and it’s okay, but I like chicken better,” Dukee said.
“Are we having company this year?’ Mia asked.
“I don’t know, Auntie didn’t say anyone was coming,” Dukee looked at Mia.
Mia and Dukee watched out the window as two squirrels were digging around in the grass. They couldn’t tell if the squirrel’s where burying or unburying nuts to eat. It looked like a little of both.
“Do you think squirrels have Thanksgiving?” Mia asked.
“I don’t know, maybe. They might have Thanksgiving every time they find something to eat,” Dukee itched his ear.
“Yeah, maybe… I know that I’m thankful to have the food that Mom feeds me,” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Yes, Auntie gives me some yummy stuff that I’m thankful for. Plus, we have a comfortable place to live too,” Dukee laid down.
“Yes, that’s true too,” Mia said.
Thanksgiving was a quiet day this year. Mom and Auntie made a nice turkey dinner with all the fixings to share with Poppa. Mia and Dukee played and then napped as usual. We all counted our blessings and are grateful for everything that God has blessed us with. We hope that however you celebrate that you are thankful for all that you have too.
