Mia and Dukee were in the front living room waiting for anyone to visit them. Dukee was up on top of the kitty tower and Mia was lying in the tunnel part. While they watched a butterfly flutter down by the blooming Penta’s, Dukee remembered something.
“You know what I haven’t seen since I moved here?” Dukee looked down at Mia.
“What?” Mia looked up at Dukee.
“A big waddling duck. We had a few of them where I used to live,” Dukee said.
“A duck? What does a duck look like?” Mia looked back out the window.
“Well, it has a body with feathers like a bird only bigger. It’s short and waddles low to the ground. It has flipper feet so that it can swim in the water, and a big rounded beak,” Dukee explained.
“Yeah, I don’t think that I’ve seen any of those,” Mia said.
“Where I used to live, one would walk right up to the screen door. It would stand by the door like it was waiting for something. I could walk right up to the door and the duck would only step back a step or two,” Dukee said.
“What did it want?” Mia looked up at Dukee.
“I don’t know,” Dukee watched as a crow landed in the front yard.
“Maybe it was hungry and thought Auntie would feed it,” Mia fluffed up her tail.
“Yeah, maybe… It would eventually waddle away, but sometimes he would come by with a couple of his friends,” Dukee lifted and licked his front paw.
“With all the animals and critters that you have seen, which is your favorite?” Mia asked.
“Hmm, I never thought about it,” Dukee said.
“I think mines are frogs and lizards,” Mia looked all around the window.
“I like lizards, but I like birds too. There are so many kinds of birds out there,” Dukee looked up into the sky. “I like how they can fly anywhere and land anywhere.”
“Yes, that’s true, Carrie and Harold are birds… I like birds too,” Mia licked the top of her paw.
Dukee and Mia looked out the front window and watched as a couple of crows walked around in the front yard. It looked like they were looking for something. Maybe something yummy like a worm to eat.
