Mia heard Mom’s recliner so she left Dukee by the barn, and trotted through the kitchen. As she entered the front living room, Mom was getting out of her chair. Mom asked her if she was ready for bed, but for a cat, human bedtime isn’t always kitty bedtime. Auntie had already gone into her bedroom, so when Mia walked away, Dukee went in by Auntie.
Mia followed Mom as she carefully walked toward the hallway, and then she took off in a flash. I’m going to beat you Mom, Mia thought. And of course, she did as she peeked out the doorway of her room at Mom. One thing about bedtime is, that Mia knows that she gets her special treat. She hopped up onto the bed and rolled over to show how cute she is.
Dukee and Auntie were getting ready for bed as well, but Dukee still had some energy. Many times after Auntie gets settled and gives Dukee a couple of treats, he will run around the house. That’s exactly what he did this time after he ate his treats. He walked out of the bedroom, went into the cardboard barn, did some clawing, and ran out. He ran into the front living room, turned, and ran back into the family room.
This time as he entered the family room, he saw Mia and turned again. As he ran, she ran after him. This is what it sounds like… The house is quiet, but you hear eight paws hitting the floor from one end of the house to the other, like horses galloping. Of course, it doesn’t last long, and they seem to have fun while doing it.
Mia plopped down on the rug, by the cardboard barn. Dukee was up on the red chaise lounge chair trying to catch his breath.
“I love a good workout,” Mia tried to catch her breath.
“Yeah, it feels good to just run,” Dukee looked down at Mia.
“I see people outside sometimes running, I wonder why Mom doesn’t?” Mia said.
“Well, Auntie doesn’t either but they do go for walks sometimes,” Dukee said.
“Yeah, Mom does walk with that stick with feet, so maybe that’s why she doesn’t run,” Mia said.
“Yeah, I don’t like that thing… She pushed it in my face one day when I just wanted to go out the front door,” Dukee said.
“Well, you’re not supposed to go out the front door… I’m going to bed now,” Mia got up and walked to her room.
“Well, that was rude,” Dukee watched Mia walk away.
