When Mia finished nibbling on her food she stepped up onto her kitty tower. She walked into the cube part and laid down. She looked out the window and saw a squirrel digging in the grass and watched it. It dug around in one spot and then moved to another spot. It was almost like it was looking for something.
While that squirrel was digging, Mia watched another squirrel run up behind the other. The first squirrel jumped and ran up the tree. The other one chased the first squirrel up into the tree as if they were playing tag. Mia was so focused on the squirrels that she didn’t hear Dukee walk into the room. He jumped up onto the side table and walked to the end.
“Whatcha doing?” Dukee sat down and looked at Mia.
“Just watching those two squirrels chase each other,” Mia said.
“Speaking of squirrels, did you hear them the other morning?” Dukee looked out the window.
“You mean them running around on the roof?” Mia said.
“Yeah, they were loud, the noise woke up Auntie,” Dukee said.
“There was a time before you moved in that it sounded like something bigger was up there… Like one of those raccoons or something,” Mia looked at Dukee.
“I suppose that they could get up there, but I don’t know why they would want to,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Maybe it was being chased by something bigger,” Mia said.
“You mean like a tiger, like me?” Dukee sat up tall.
“Or maybe a mountain lion like me,” Mia licked the fur on her shoulder.
“Mountain lions don’t have long hair like you do,” Dukee said.
“Well, okay… A Lynx then,” Mia said.
“I’m surprised you know what a Lynx is,” Dukee looked at her.
“Well, Mom puts a channel on the TV sometimes that has different animals on it, and while she’s gone I watch it,” Mia said.
“Oh, I think I’ve seen that channel… They talk about the animals don’t they?” Dukee asked.
“Yep, and it can be pretty interesting,” Mia said.
“Yeah, they do have some good stuff on there,” Dukee scratched his ear.
“Look, there goes a Lynx now,” Dukee stretched his neck out to look down the road.
“Where?” Mia looked. “You’re just kidding right?”
Dukee laughed, “Yes I’m just kidding… I made you look though.”
“You’re such a pain sometimes,” Mia huffed.
Dukee giggled a couple of times, but they both sat there and looked out the window. With their imaginations working, who knows what they might come up with next.
