Mia walked into the front living room and saw Dukee sitting up on the side table. He was sitting at the end of it looking out the front window. Mia jumped up onto the coffee table next to the kitty tower and looked at Dukee.
“Any activity going on outside?” Mia asked.
“Just a squirrel and some birds,” Dukee said quietly.
“Is something wrong?” Mia stepped onto the window sill.
“No, not really. At least not now,” Dukee licked the fur on his right side.
Mia looked out the window and then looked back at Dukee, “Are you sure that you are okay?”
Dukee looked at Mia, “have you ever had a dream where you were being attacked by something?”
“No, why have you?” Mia cocked her head.
“Yes, early this morning I did. And it was so real that I still think that something is biting me,” Dukee licked his lower backside.
“Are you sure that there isn’t something there in your fur?” Mia asked.
“Yes I’m sure,” Dukee hesitated to tell Mia. I know, because it was a lousy lizard that I dreamt was biting me,” Dukee looked at Mia.
Mia giggled, “a lizard? Lizards don’t bite.”
“Yes, they do. I’ve had one grab onto my cheek before when I tried to pick it up,” Dukee said.
“Really? I never thought about them attacking like that. I’ve only been able to watch them through the windows,” Mia looked out the window for one.
“Well, it’s not like it hurts that much when they bite, but it’s that they hang on and won’t let go,” Dukee said.
Mia looked at Dukee, “wow, so is that what happened in your dream?”
“Yes, and I woke up in bed and spun around looking for it. I even woke up Auntie because of my jumping. She was concerned about me and pet me,” Dukee hopped down onto the blanket on top of the litter box cabinet.
“It sounds like it really scared you,” Mia watched Dukee lie down.
“All I know is that it was very startling to have a dream that felt so real,” Dukee licked the top of his paw.
“Yes, I bet it was,” Mia looked out the window.
Mia looked for anything that was moving and saw a bumble bee fly down to the Penta’ flowers. Dukee cleaned both of his paws while he lay there. Mom walked into the room and looked at Mia and Dukee. Mia scooted past Dukee and hopped down to the floor. What are you doing Mom, Mia thought. She watched Mom pick up her purse and then followed her over to the front door. Mom slipped her shoes on and grabbed her cane. Mom told Mia that she will be back in a little while and to be a good girl.
As Mom opened the door and closed it behind her, Mia walked up and looked out the narrow window.
“I wonder where she is going,” Mia said.
“I’m sure that she won’t be gone too long,” Dukee sat up and looked toward the door.
Mia watched out the window as Mom got into the car and backed out of the driveway, “yeah probably not, she didn’t take any other bags with her this time.”
Dukee jumped back up onto the side table and looked down at Mia on the floor. Mia looked up at Dukee and then walked over to her cat carrier about four feet away. Dukee hopped down off the table and ran into the hallway. Mia chased after him until he ran and jumped up onto the red chaise in the family room. Dukee turned around and looked to see where Mia was. She had stopped at the one end of the cardboard barn and was peeking at Dukee through it.
As Dukee hopped down off the chaise, he was at the other end of the cardboard barn. Mia charged through the barn towards Dukee, and he took off and jumped up onto the sofa. Mia chased him but ran past the sofa and turned around quickly. Just like that, Auntie walked into the family room to see what was going on. She saw Dukee standing on the sofa looking at Mia, and Mia was sitting about five feet away from him on the floor. Auntie smiled and saw that they were playing nicely together so she went back to her room.
Mia stuck her tongue out at Dukee, turned, and ran down the hallway and into the front living room. Dukee jumped down off the sofa and trotted toward the hall but changed his mind. He decided to go into his bedroom by Auntie and get something to eat. Mia hid in front of Mom’s recliner and waited for Dukee but he never showed. So she crept to the back of Mom’s recliner and peeked into the hall but saw no one. Oh, he’s not there, Mia thought and turned around. Mia then jumped up onto the coffee table where her food dish is and got something to eat as well.
