The next morning Princess Mia playfully trotted out into the living room and was startled by movement on the sofa. She looked up and saw Dukee lying there. Mia slowly stepped away and walked over to her kitty tower. She climbed up her tower and little by little crept her way over to the side-table and hopped up. Dukee watched her the whole time but stayed lying there.
They both stared at each other for maybe five minutes before Mia said.
“Who are you?”
“I’m Dukee.” He said.
“Who are you?” Dukee asked.
“I am Princess Mia and this is my home.” She licked her front paw.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mia. Auntie and I arrived here yesterday.” Dukee sat up.
“Yes, I know. I heard all the noise from my room.” Mia said.
“Why didn’t you come out then?'“ Dukee itched his ear.
“I knew that my maid had it under control.” Mia lifted her tail and fluffed it.
“What’s a maid?” Dukee asked.
“She’s the lady who let you in… I call her Mom.” Mia said.
“She takes care of everything around here, including me.”
“Oh ok… Auntie takes care of me. We have been pals for a really long time now.” Dukee licked his paw.
“Well, don’t expect Mom to do anything for you, she only works for me,” Mia said.
“Don’t worry, I won’t.” Dukee hopped down.
“Where are you going?” Mia asked.
“Exploring.” Dukee turned and walked away.
Dukee decided to get something to eat first before he explored, so he went into his room. While he was eating, he heard a small sound behind him. Mia had slowly crept through the doorway and watched Dukee eat. He had a feeling that it was Mia and continued to eat like she wasn’t even there. By the time he was done, Mia disappeared. It was a fairly large house so Dukee knew that she could be anywhere.
Dukee noticed the large clear door and went over to take a look. He could see out into the backyard, and a squirrel running along the fence. Auntie had noticed Dukee looking out and asked if he wanted to go out onto the screened porch. She opened the clear door and stepped out. Dukee sniffed the air and carefully stepped out onto the porch. Auntie closed the door because Mia wasn’t allowed to go out there.
Auntie sat down in the chair on the porch and Dukee plopped down in a warm spot where the sun was shining in. He stretched his whole body all the way out and thought, this is the life. The two of them sat out there for about an hour when Auntie got up. She asked Dukee if he wanted to go in but he glanced at her and put his head back down. Dukee thought, no it’s too nice out here.
