It was about five-thirty in the morning when Mia had a lot of energy that she wanted to release. She jumped up onto her and her mom’s bed and ran around like a crazy kitty. Mom was startled awake when Mia jumped up onto her pillow and then jumped down to the floor. With all her energy, Mia ran out past the bedroom door, through the family room, and down the hallway. She stopped, slid on her furry feet, turned around, and ran back toward her bedroom.
Mom tried to get her to calm down since it was so early, but Mia was ready to run again. While Mom put her slippers on, Mia scooted under the bed and rushed out the other side. Before Mom even stood up, Mia ran back out of the bedroom. She took off as fast as she could back down the hall and into the dining area. She plopped down, breathing heavily, and waited for her mom to come. Mia knew that now that she got Mom up, it was her breakfast time.
While Mia waited for her mom, Dukee walked down the hallway toward Mia, “What are you doing running around so early for, I think you woke up everyone up.”
“I just had a lot of energy and had to run. Sorry, I thought I was being quiet,” Mia said.
“Well, you might have been at first until… You hit the door again didn’t you?
Mia giggled, “Yes.”
“That’s what woke me up. The bang of the door,” Dukee said.
“Sorry, did I wake Auntie up too?” Mia asked.
“Yes, but I think she went back to sleep,” Dukee looked down the hallway.
Mom shuffled down the hall in her slippers and into the kitchen. Dukee sat there quietly while Mom got Mia’s breakfast from the refrigerator. Mia got up and walked over to her mom when she brought the food into the dining room. She rubbed her body across Mom’s leg while she put some moist food into her dish. When Mia heard the knife tap on the metal bowl, she knew what came next. Mia turned around and ran past Dukee, down the hall, and toward her bedroom.
Mom through the empty container away and carried Mia’s dish with her. Dukee watched as Mom shuffled back down the hallway and into the family room. When Mom disappeared into her bedroom, Dukee walked over to the narrow window by the front door.
“It’s early but I wonder if anyone is around?” Dukee looked out the window.
It was pretty quiet and still outside. Not even a single squirrel was up yet. Dukee walked over to the cushioned bench by the window and jumped up onto it. He sat down and gazed out into the dark front yard. Maybe I’ll lay down here for a while, he thought.
About ten minutes passed and Mia finished her breakfast. She trotted out of her bedroom in need of a drink. She made her way into the front living room, jumped up onto the table where her water dish is, and got a drink. When she finished drinking her water, she burped.
“I heard that,” Dukee said from the bench.
Mia looked across the room, “where are you?”
“Over here on the bench,” Dukee said.
“Oh,” Mia hopped down and trotted over to where Dukee was. “You heard my burp over here?”
“Yep. Did you enjoy your breakfast?” Dukee turned and looked at Mia.
“Yes, it was very yummy,” Mia burped again.
“Excuse yourself,” Dukee grumbled.
“Oh, sorry, excuse me,” Mia sat down and licked the droplets from around her mouth.
Dukee turned around and looked back outside. Mia decided to wash her face and ears while she let her food digest. The house was again quiet from running kitty paws. So Mom and Auntie can get some more sleep.
