Dukee got up from the blanket, jumped up onto the side table, and walked to the other end. Mia quietly hopped down from the kitty tower and waited for Dukee to jump down off the table. She crept to the front end of the sofa recliner and waited for him. When Dukee jumped down, he walked past the front door and into the dining area. He had a feeling that Mia was up to something. Mia wiggled her back end and pounced past the sofa, but Dukee wasn’t there. She looked past the dining table and there Dukee was near the entrance of the kitchen.
“Are you looking for me?” Dukee snickered.
Mia slowly crept toward Dukee and when she got about three feet away from him, he ran through the kitchen. Mia of course ran after him until he jumped up onto the sofa in the family room. She ran around the back of the sofa and ducked under the wingback chair. Dukee ran across the length of the sofa and onto the end table by the wingback chair.
Mia looked up at Dukee on the table, “you can move pretty fast for an old guy.”
“Who are you calling old, I’m only nine,” Dukee said while breathing heavily.
“Well, that’s seven years older than me,” Mia giggled.
Just then, Mom walked out of her bathroom and into the family room. She saw Dukee sitting on the end table and asked what he was doing. Mia got up and walked out from under the chair so that Mom could see her. Mom understood then, that the two of them were playing together. Mia followed her mom while she walked toward the front living room. Dukee hopped down off the end table and went into his bedroom.
When Mom sat down in her recliner, Mia rubbed her body on her mom’s leg. Mom gave her some neck scratches until Mia walked away. Mia walked around her tunnels on the floor and went over to the fireplace. Mom knew what Mia was in the mood for and picked up the laser pointer off her table. When Mia saw the bright red dot going back and forth on the floor, she ran from the fireplace to catch it. Mia would catch the red dot and then go back to the fireplace to start again. She did that a couple of times and then jumped up on the table to get a drink of water.
Dukee was in his room lying on the leather stool by the window. He watched as a couple of different birds flew down and landed on the fence. He chattered at the birds for a few minutes until they flew away. Dukee then turned himself around so that he wouldn’t be distracted and put his head down to take a nap. Auntie was working on her laptop anyways so he didn’t want to disturb her.
Back in the front living room, Mia was looking out the front window. She thought she saw something coming down the street, but it was only a human with a dog. Mia hopped down off the table and walked over to her mom. Mom had just emptied a cardboard box and pushed it aside. Mia had to check out the box and jumped inside it. Because the box was sitting partially on a cushion, it fell over on its side. Mia didn’t care though because it just made it easier to see her mom while she lay in it. I think that I will take a nap as long as I’m here, Mia thought.

Our fluffies like cardboard boxes too. We have to be careful, if we are playing a board game or working a puzzle, not to leave the top off the boxes. Callie will climb into them and lay down. I've had to tape the corners and sides on so many of them. She says "if I fits, I sits."
