In the late afternoon, Dukee just happened to be sitting on the chaise lounge chair when Mia walked out of her bedroom. She was unaware that Dukee was there until she walked past the chair and toward the hallway. Dukee watched Mia and wiggled his back end before he jumped down to chase her. Once Dukee hit the floor, Mia spun around and stared at him. Dukee of course stopped because he was caught.
“Oh, no you don’t. I had a feeling that you were around somewhere,” Mia said.
“Yeah, I was on the lounge chair,” Dukee snickered.
Mia turned back around and continued to the front living room where her mom was.
“Okay, I guess that she doesn’t want to play,” Dukee walked over to the sliding glass door.
Dukee meowed and then turned around and scratched the wingback chair near the door. Auntie heard Dukee so she walked out of her room and over to him. She slid open the door and Dukee walked out onto the back screened porch. Dukee looked over to one side of the porch and saw a squirrel in the yard munching on a nut. He quietly crept over to that side and watched the squirrel. Auntie went back to her room since Dukee seemed content.
Mia was still in the front living room with Mom but playing with her baby Lamb-chop toy. She softly meowed as she tapped her baby across the floor. As if she was telling it to get moving. Then, Mia tossed Lamb-chop into the air with her mouth and softly meowed again. Mom looked in Mia’s direction and smiled. She asked Mia if she was playing with her baby. Mia looked at Mom to acknowledge her. Yes, I am, she thought. Mia hopped toward Lamb-shop and then laid down on top of it. She rolled to one side, held her baby to her furry belly, and then kicked her back legs.
Just then, Mia hopped up and jumped to one side leaving Lamb-chop lying there. She suddenly had a burst of energy and ran toward the fireplace, turned quickly, and ran through one of her tunnels, and then into the dining room. She then trotted over to Mom as she sat in her chair and looked up at her. Mom looked down at Mia, reached out, and petted her on the head. Mia was satisfied and went back to playing with her toy. When she tossed Lamb-chop up this time, it landed on the crinkle sack. Mia looked at it and pounced her front paws on the crinkle sack. Crinkle, crinkle, crunch crunch went the sack.
Mia picked up Lamb-chop with her mouth and stepped off of the crinkle sack. She walked her baby about a foot away and set it down. Mia decided to lie down too and rest for a while. Mia watched Auntie as she walked through the family room. Auntie went over toward the sliding glass door to see if Dukee wanted inside. She opened the door and he walked in. He casually walked around the wingback chair and past the cardboard barn. He glanced down the hallway and saw Mia lying at the front of the house. Dukee walked toward her and then sat down about a foot away from her.
“Did you see anyone outside?” Mia whispered.
“Our friends, no. Just a couple of squirrels,” Dukee whispered.
Mia nodded her head to acknowledge what Dukee said.
Mia continued to lay there while Dukee just sat there and stared out the narrow window by the front door. It was quiet and calm in the house again, at least for now.
