During the night, while Mia was sitting on the window sill in her bedroom she heard a noise. She looked down and two green eyes glowed as they slowly looked up at her.
“Hello, my lovely.”
Mia watched as the two eyes moved into a better view for her to see, “you must be Rafael,” Mia said.
“Yes, it is me, and I understand that your name is Mia?” Rafael asked.
“Yes, I’m Mia. Dukee told me about you,” she whispered through the window.
“He’s telling my secrets already?” Rafael sat down and looked at the nails on his front paw.
“What secrets? He didn’t tell me any secrets,” Mia readjusted her tail.
“Oh, I am playing with you, I didn’t tell him anything yet… Where are you from Mia?” Rafael asked.
“Where am I from? I don’t really know. This house is mostly what I know. Sometimes I have bits and pieces that pop into my mind of another place but I’m not real sure,” Mia said.
“Oh, don’t fret my dear. I will fill your head with all kinds of places… Like Paris and Barcelona,” Rafael licked the top of his paw.
“So you have traveled a lot?” Mia asked.
“Oh yes, this is the longest I have been in one place… Let’s see, It’s been about a year now that we have lived here,” Rafael said.
“I’m only two years old so this is where I have been… As far as I can remember,” Mia said.
“Well my lovely, I must be going now. It was such a pleasure to meet you, and don’t you worry, I will visit you again,” Rafael shook his body to fluff his fur.
“It was nice to meet you too,” Mia watched as he strutted toward the neighbor's yard.
Rafael crawled through the hole in the neighbor's fence and looked around. Mia watched him until he disappeared into the darkness.
Wow, he’s very mysterious, Mia thought as she hopped down onto the floor. Mia walked out of her bedroom and looked up at the chaise lounge chair to see if Dukee was there. Oh, maybe he’s in his room, she thought. Mia walked down the hall to the front living room and hopped up onto the table where her food dish is. Mia nibbled her food and thought about how Rafael spoke. I’ve never heard anyone speak like that, she thought.
“Of course, I haven’t met very many humans or cats either,” Mia turned around.
She walked over to the window and looked outside. It was so dark outside tonight that it was hard to see anything. She was able to see Rafael more in the backyard because the neighbors always have their backyard light on. Mia just gazed out the window and thought about the adventures that Rafael must have had over the years.
