It was an early morning of running around the house for Mia already. Dukee walked out of his bedroom, yawned, and then sat down near the hall and family room. Mia was in her bedroom when suddenly she zoomed out of her room again, right past Dukee, and down the hall to the front living room. Mia ran so fast that Dukee felt the breeze swish after her. Dukee stood up, stretched, and then casually walked toward the front living room.
Dukee looked into the living room but didn’t see Mia. He glanced toward the dining table but still didn’t see her.
“Where are you?” Dukee called out.
“Over here on the bench,” Mia said.
Dukee walked near the front door and looked over at the bench. Mia was lying down now and looking out the window.
“You started your running kind of early this morning don’t you think?” Dukee walked closer to Mia.
“Yes, I guess so. Why, did I wake you?” Mia looked over at Dukee.
“Yes, and I tried to go back to sleep when you stopped, but then you started up again,” Dukee yawned.
“Oh, sorry. But you know what? I talked to Rafael earlier,” Mia said.
“Oh yeah? How is he doing?” Dukee sat down and licked his paw.
“He’s good. He said that his humans have also decorated and brought a real tree inside the house,” Mia sat up and looked at Dukee.
“A real tree?” Dukee cocked his head.
“Yes, he said they called it a fir tree, but he said that it isn’t very furry. He did say that it smells nice though,” Mia looked back out the window.
“Hmm, interesting. A real tree in the house. That would be fun to climb,” Dukee walked over to the narrow window by the door.
“Yeah, I bet you would climb it. You are always climbing up on something,” Mia said.
“Well, that’s what I like to do,” Dukee said as he watched the squirrel in the front yard.
Mia watched the same squirrel from the bench out the big window. Just then another squirrel ran up to the first squirrel touched it and then ran up the utility pole in the front yard.
“Did you see that? I think that other squirrel wants to play,” Dukee said.
“Yes, maybe. But I don’t think that this squirrel is interested. He just seems to be eating something,” Mia itched her ear with her back foot.
Dukee and Mia quietly watched the squirrel when all of a sudden, Dukee turned quickly and ran down the hallway. Startled, Mia looked in that direction and carefully hopped down off the bench. She slowly crept past the dining table and peeked down the hall. Just then, Dukee ran from the far end of the family room, down the hallway, and stopped a few feet away from Mia.
“What was that all about?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Well, I just did what you were doing earlier,” Dukee sat down to catch his breath.
“Well, warned me next time. You scared me,” Mia turned and walked to the bottom shelf of the side table.
“Sorry,” Dukee giggled.
Mia walked along the bottom shelf of the side table to the front side of the sofa. Dukee walked around the end of the sofa and watched Mia jump up onto the coffee table to get a drink of water. He walked over to Mia’s litter box cabinet and jumped up onto it. He sat down and watched as a couple of birds flew down and landed in the tree. When Mia was done drinking, she walked over to the kitty tower and hopped up and into the tunnel part of it. The house was fairly quiet now with those two, at least for the moment.
